The sound of a pencil tapping and a clock ticking was the only heard in the quiet classroom. The ticking was obviously done by the clock but the tapping was done by a young male, staring outside into the bright springs day.
''’’Mr areilus’’!'' the teacher spoke in an elevated tone.''May we have absolute silence everyone knows you passed the test but give everyone else a chance to do the same.''
''Yes sir''. He spoke softly and stopped his infernal tapping as his head reasted on his arm. His orange, reddish hair blocked his view temporarily blocked his eyesight but he blew it out of the way. The boys eyes where a mix of cerulean and teal. He had the smarts to go with his appearance. And his reputation as a smartass didnt give him too much of a huge circle of friends. But he didnt mind if they have the paitence to put up with him they didnt deserve his kindness.

He looked upon the clock and as he stared at it. It gave off the siren telling the kids to leave. The children turned in theyre tests and left the class. As the class cleared out he left himself
''Lucky its friday'' He replied. Deciding on taking a stroll through the forest he gazed upon the ambiance of life sprawling around him. But he gazed upon a dark figure. He reconized it as a female but a bit familiar.
''What is that? He decided to pursue the figure with secrecy and stealth.

When the siren that signaled the end of school blasted, Abigail was out of her seat in a heartbeat. She chewed her lip as she moved through the halls and off the path into the forest. She had forgotten that the potion she had left on boiling in the cauldron was supposed to be stirred right about now. It would be terrible if she lost several weeks of brewing just because she couldn’t skip the last period of class like she always had. Hidden branches and burrs grabbed at her ankle-length school uniform as she moved through the forest. Normally she would have jogged to a footpath further down the road from the school and made it home quickly, but it was especially important that she hurry so she took a quicker, if not harder path home.

“Oh please,” she whispered, “Don’t let it boil over.”

Half of the ingredients she had to custom order from a witch five towns away and even then it had taken her months to get them in. Moonflowers only bloomed once a month and had to be picked on a full moon otherwise the magical properties were lost, and then they had to be dried on a lodestone under the care of gnomes. If she had to order it again…she would cry. It had taken her months just to save up for the meager pouch she had ordered. Her long black hair caught on a branch and she had to slow down to untangle it before she hurried on.

When the small cottage came in few she gave a smile and shouted softly, “I’m home, Axe.” A little dark bird-like creature flew down from its perch over her door and gave a squawk as she pulled open the door. A plus to living so far into the woods was that she didn’t have to lock the door; the wolves that sometimes lurked in the forest kept all but the most foolhardy away. On top of that, the spells her mother had layered over the door before she left on her sabbatical would have barred even a demon from entering the room.

Axe grumbled, “You shouldn’t have gone to school today. The brew…”

“I know, I know,” she interrupted as she dashed into the kitchen and over to her cauldron. The top was still firmly on it and not a speck of the precious potion had leaked over it. Abigail relaxed and waved her hand over the cauldron, “Levitate.” Her red eyes glowed for a moment before the cauldron lifted from its stands and moved away from the fire and to the work table. The young witch glanced at it before moving to an open book on the counter next to the sink. She skimmed the page with her finger as Axe, her familiar muttered the instructions to himself, “So I let it sit for the evening and then I bottle it in diamond with a ruby stopper. That’s not too hard! It’s not like it’s arithmetic or something.”

Sylph followed after the girl slowly and made sure to stay as quiet as ever. He managed to get to her destination without her seeing him. Shed seemed to grumble something but he didnt manage to get out out. A bit of recon would be nessesary than just charnging in mindlessly.
He peeped through a small window curious to her actions of what she was doing in the house. A giant culdron sat in the center and books surrounded the small house.
''Is she...A..witch?'' He asked then her image popped in his head. This was abagail. The silent girl in his class. They had spoke on certain occasions. But they couldnt consider themselves friends.

''I guess this is why she isint close to people''. He sat back down, because a long stare would draw attention to himself. He sat back aginst the walls of the shed.
He left the window and stood up. He decided not to jump to any conclusions untill he heard it from her lips. He came to the door and gently opeened the door.
''Um abby you forgot your homework'' he lied a bit. Since she actually did forget her homework.
''Whats going on in here?'' he asked as he looked around

Re: Whia you can use magic[Seraph and I]

Abigail jumped and looked at Slyph with a frown as she entered and spoke, “Um…thank you? But could you! Oh please don’t come in…” She raised her hands before she dropped them with a huff as she entered her home. The first floor was mostly a kitchen with a small sitting area off to the side with a bookcase pushed up against the wall. The second floor, rather attic of the cottage was where the bedrooms and the bathroom was.

She tapped her foot against the hard wood floor and looked at Axe who remained perched on her shoulder as her classmate entered her house. She was sure she had spoken to him once or twice but only over some project that the professor had them work on together. She was very sure she had never told him where her home was, which meant that he had followed her. Or at the very least, she could assume he had followed her.

Abigail had been raised with manners, and she fell back on them easily, “Thank you for bringing it, though it could have waited. It’s not like he collects homework often…” Her fingers fluttered against her maroon skirt as she looked towards her book of spells lying open. She flipped it closed and looked around. With the exception of the cauldron, she could pass it off as a pot of stew, the cottage was pretty normal. The herbs and crystals hanging from the rafters might cause some discussion but it really wasn’t that odd…right?

Re: Whia you can use magic[Seraph and I]

''Yeah but theres a quiz tomorrow so you'd better study'' He replied as he looked around the area. A strange aura was smething he felt when he entered. But besides what he was seeing nothing he had seen was taken as odd.
''Mind if i stay here for a bit?'' he asked as he took a seat. ''Im sorry if i came over unannounced but i think i might need a bit of help. But i think i might need a bit of help studying for a bit.''. He took a seat and looked around curiously. The 'decoration' consisted of herbs and a few crystals. The book of the strange characters sat on the ground. He marked the book but decided not to pick it up finding the characters illegible.

''And i can crack this story'' He thought. So playing dumb for a while would hurt his pride a bit but he would get over it. And of course the culdron caught his attention. Respect was something he was raised off of so he decided to give it to her. Even thogh she was a bit suspect.
''You making soup you must really like soup to have a pot this big''. The culdron gave off a red steam and began to give off the appearance of a small bubble at the top.
''Isint that flooding?'' he asked pointing to it. The red soupy like liquid seemed to bubble up uncharacteristic of soups but who was he to judge.

Abigail almost wanted to hex Slyph as he sat down and made himself at home. Her eyes narrowed and she glanced over to her cauldron, "I do. I do like soup a lot." She was so tense that Axe fluttered off her shoulder to perch on the bookcase and glare down at the young man. This was not going to end well; the last time a person had come in unannounced, Abigail's mother banished them into the Faerie realm to learn some manners. A few years with beings who thought grown humans were toys would show him, but Abigail didn't have that power behind her. She was a young witch, pretty much a witch in training if one got down to it.

"...Why don't you go find help with someone else? I'm busy," she culled the urge to 'shoo' him out the door or levitate the chair out of her home and bolt the door. There was a reason she didn't make any friends at school; she couldn't do magic in front of them and that made her feel like she was missing a limb. "Please? I'm really not good at math, so I won't be any help. And I'm not going into school tomorrow so it really doesn't matter."

Tomorrow was the first day she could do a summoning and she didn't want to have to wait until after school to do it. She could always forge a note from her mother saying she was sick. Abigail hadn't told the school that her mother was gone for a year, or two, or three. She hadn't really been specific when she would be back.

He sighed heavily. He had a feeling he wasnt wanted but deciding to push a bit farther was dangerous. And he knaw and aknowlidged it. But nevertheless he stood up and looked around.
''Look i know im not wanted but my feed for knowledge is keeping me here..My life is in danger. But if you tell me ill make sure your secrets safe with me. If not you can kill me...But if you dont ill just have to come here everyday untill i figure it out''. He says as he looked to her and picked up his bookbag.
''Ill never tell anyone of us meeting'' he says ''If you just tell me...What is this weird aura im feeling''. This could be the greatest day of his average boring life. Of course he wasnt going to let it slip away from his fingers like sand.

He had gotten down to the point. Blackmail wasnt really something he did. Or something he had hated. Incorperating blackmail with something called diplomacy. Just ruined the passionate art ofpersuading. Since he didnt really have a trump card. He just hoped his diplomacy skill would persuade her to tell him.
''Besides you could use an assistant for whatever your doing? And xoup can get a bit bland every once in a while ill cook for you''. He blurted out reasons to let her keep him around. It was like he was in the movie fantasia. But instead of mickey mouse the scorcers apprentence was a cute young girl. It would be intresteing if she decided to concede and let him hang around

Re: Whia you can use magic[Seraph and I]

When he picked up his bag and started to go, Abigail breathed a sigh of relief but when he pressed again she dropped her head and mumbled, "Why me?" When her mother returned and found out that she might have compromised their standing, she would be in so much trouble but if she didn't let him come back it might cause more problems. She took a deep breath and looked at Slyph, "...You can come back tomorrow if you like...but not before four o clock, all right?

"I...wouldn't mind a little help with some chores," she admitted slightly, need be it would be things she didn't like doing at all. Things that would keep him out of her cottage and pretty much give her an errand boy. She wouldn't have to chop wood again, or go to the grocers to get dinner supplies. Even though the kitchen was rustic, it did have a working gas stove and a refrigerator. Axe gave a crow of displeasure at her decision but didn't say anything while the boy was still in hearing range.

Abigail flicked her hair over her shoulder and turned around before going to a cupboard; she wished he would leave so she could start on her next spell. A witch from a different region contacted her about making a love potion; her mother had excelled at them and she wanted to try her hand at one. Maybe if she was good at it, she could make a small business like her mother did.

Re: Whia you can use magic[Seraph and I]

''Okay cool...Since i have to work between two thirty and six ill be fine. I can just rell my mom im doing an extra shift.I can bring some cinnamon rolls on the way back'' he replied and left the small cottage. He didnt mind being an errand boy for some time.
''You start from the bottom and work your way up.. Besides he would do this he would gain her trust. And she would open up and tell him what she was. Taking the same route to his original starting position. He used the normal trail to return home. He had been over there for about an hour and it had showed. The sun was beginning to set under the horizon.

''Id better head home before mom complains'' He said to himself as he dashed home, doing his homework and passing out on the bed. ''Tomorrow is the first day of the change in my life''.

...
The next evening he finished work. Smelling like sweet bread. He left the bakery with a small chestnut box. He had already checked in with his mother and she gave him the ok. He walked into the forest making sure he wasnt followed. The forest had defiently been darker since yesterday. Today the aura had became an ominous wind. It was a bit frightening but he pressed on and to the small cottage deep inside the forest.. He gave a getle knock on the door saying
''Abby im here'' He says . The aroma of the sweet bread in the box bled through and under the door and caressed her nose gently.

Re: Whia you can use magic[Seraph and I]

Axe waited for Slyph for to leave before he flapped down from his perch on the book stand. Before he landed on the ground, a transformation took place, his claws turned into toes and his bird-legs into human legs until a child about the age of seven stood in his place. There was a dark scowl on his face as he looked at the young witch, "You shouldn't done that, Abigail."

The young woman sighed and shrugged, "At least this way I'll be able to keep an eye on him, right?"

Her familiar didn't look the least bit pleased as he flopped down on a chair and pouted, "I don't like it. He shouldn't be sniffing around here. You should have been more careful!"

"Axe, calm down," she smiled pleasantly, "At least he didn't try to eat the soup."

Axe glowered and scuffed his toes against the floor, "Would have been better if he did, if ya ask me."

Abigail narrowed her red eyes at her familiar, "I'm not going to kill him, Axe."

The rest of the evening in the cottage, the witch and her familiar argued until they agreed to disagree on the subject and feel into a stony silence. Axe returned to his bird-like shape and perched down for the night as Abigail stayed up working her spells and making an attempt at her homework. She didn't care about her grades.

------

Axe stared at Abigail as she patched up her arm and tried not to say anything demeaning about the failed summoning. He cooed out, "Soak your arm in the willow-bark tincture and then wrap it with gauze. You shouldn't have tried to summon a demon on your first try ya know."

Abigail sniffled and did her as her familiar suggested, "I didn't know he would break the circle, Axe!"

At the gentle knocking, she sighed and called out, "Come in...."

Sylph walked in hearing a muffled speaking but he thought he was just going creazy.Entering the small cottage he placed down the box near her saying''Here i brought these from work'' he says. Taking a seat. He ached a bit from carrying baking supplied all day he didnt really mind. The place had seemed completley changed from last time. Books where sprawled across the floor.
''A person who was less caring would break his neck. What happened i feel an ominous wind and what hurt you'' He says sitting up and closed the books he thought she wasnt using. He noticed the wounded her and looked to her worriedly before returrning to his process. They where full of the illegible languange but she could obviously find meaning to them. Placing them on the bookcase and then organizing them.

'There now this place is safer for the both of us''. He replied. Selfless and acts that would help them both would probally be a key thing to her gaining some faith in them
''Anything else you want done around here?'' he asked tilting his head to the sde. Hopefully something not too extreme. Since he was still in a weakened staste from the toils of constant baking to please the customer. Whom apparently was always right. Hopefully a small snack would help him. He opened the small box and breaking one of the warm rolls in half and took a bite.
''Go ahead theyre delicious'' hge says smiling warmly

Abigail watched Slyph quietly as he tidied up around her house and frowned slightly. She would have to pull down those books again later, as if she would trip on them. At least he put them up in a semi-ordered way, she thought and she finished bandaged her arm. The demon had been a minor one or it would have been worse; her circle of protection hadn't been perfectly sealed and well...she had managed to get the demon back to where it came but it took a nibble at her arm before it left. She have a gallic shrug, "I fell in the woods earlier."

She looked at the half of the roll with a bit of trepidation before she took it and tore a small piece off for Axe before taking a bite herself, "It's...good, thank you." She thought on it for a minute and nodded, "If you could chop the wood in the pile out back for me that would be just dandy."

He nodded slowly. He realized by her delayed action to tell him about what she said. She was lying besides a scrape wouldnt have been that big. But deciding not to push on he headed outside. The axe sat planked in the stump that was used for chopping.
''Manual labors the worst'' he grumbled. And there seemed to be plenty to do. Since wood had been piled there for sometime and had grown to be quite large. Giving a weakened sigh he started at the pile. Choipping wood for some time. He worked dillegently like there was a big cookie waiting for him at the end of his toil.

As he worked his mind began to wander.''If i can get her to teach me magic...'' he thought to himself. As he thought he was about a third finished untill collapsing onto the ground.
''Ill think ill take a nap...'' He turned over and passed out on the ground. He had exausted himself mentally from school. And physically from picking up heavy loads of sweet breaded treats for his customers. As he slept he had a dream, about a transmutation glyph transforming around him anhen into him. Probably because of the magical aura surrounding him he thought about this
