For years the dwarves of Erebor had spent rebuilding their halls. The defeat of Smaug and the end of the war with the Five Armies had given them plenty of time to focus on this task. While the company worked long and hard to see the glory of their kingdom restored to its former glory, Erebor's king focused on solidifying alliances and trades. Thorin realized that in order for them to prosper once more, they would have to build friendships with nearby kingdoms; mainly the kingdom of Mirkwood and the people of Dale. Surprisingly, King Thranduil had been open to negotiations, to help the dwarves in their steep task, and the two king's had set for hours discussing how a proper alliance between dwarf and elf would be beneficial to both each other and their kingdoms.

After many days of conference, they had finally come to the agreement. They worked out trade agreements, filling out the necessary documents to officiate this. Bard of Dale was as equally and eager for opening trade, his own city in need of desperate repairs. So the three leaders had come together against all odds, when in the beginning, they had been at each other's throats. It stung Thorin's pride a little to negotiate with the Elven King that had imprisoned him and his companions, but over time he had seen to his own errs and swallowed that pride for the betterment of his own people. It seemed King Thranduil had managed to contain his own pride to do the same and that had given Thorin the push he needed to go through with this. The years that passed since their initial negotiations moved quickly. The three kingdoms prospered from their trade and soon both Erebor and Dale were restored. During this time, Thorin could even dare to say he had garnered a closer friendship with the cold Elven King. A surprising turn of events considering, but the amulet that hung around his neck spoke volumes of how their relationship had gone from pure hatred to kinship.

It was this amulet and the presence of Thranduil's elk that told him something was desperately wrong. First it had begun with the amulets vibrant light beginning to fade. It made the dwarf king confused, but at first had thought nothing of it, then he felt a pang in his chest as he watched the beautiful stone crack. Hours he would spend pacing, trying to figure out why this amulet would crack. In a strange sense, this whole time he wore it, he felt he could feel Thranduil's presence. At first it had been odd then it had been comforting so this happening only made him uncomfortable. For once, Thranduil felt so far away, almost as if he were gone. Then he felt a strange sickness, nauseous suddenly, but he shook it away as nerves. It was when Thranduil's elk was spotted outside of the mountain that Thorin felt his heart sank. He joined his comrades in approaching the distressed beast, the elk bellowing loudly until it spotted him. The elk moved close and Thorin almost thought he could see mourning and concern in those large, deep black pools.

"What's the matter, beast? Where's your rider?" Thorin asked and cautiously raised his hand to touch the elk's neck, brushing downwards until his hand swiped over the saddle cloth and came back covered in blood. Something was definitely wrong. What had happened to Thranduil? Thorin felt another wave of nausea hit him, putting him to his knees as he clutched his stomach. His head spun and he gave Balin a questioning look as the old dwarf hurried over. "I don't know what is going on, but something is really wrong. Thranduil...." He murmured and squeezed his eyes shut, swallowing down the bile in his throat before staggering to his feet and hurrying back into the mountain. He needed to seek out answers, but he wasn't sure how. He had received word that Thranduil's son was on a quest with eight other companions to destroy the ring of power so perhaps Legolas would know what happened to his father. These past few months had been hellish fighting off goblins and orcs alike, but he realized over the past few days that their numbers seemed to be dwindling, more fearful and uncertain until they weren't fighting anymore. It was strange, but welcome. Something had definitely changed, but he wasn't sure what. All Thorin could focus on now was figuring out what happened to the Elven King.

Thorin wrote several letters, figuring to send it out to Legolas and the other two Elf lords to see if they knew anything of this disturbance. He waited days for answers, his nerves only getting worse, and same with the nausea. He felt like he was going crazy, felt like he was sensing something completely abnormal. His stomach felt weird, heavy, and he couldn't describe it well as he sat with Balin getting examined. He almost equated it to being pregnant, but there was no way he could be! It was just another mystery and it was leaving him with a headache. When Legolas showed up at Erebor days later, Thorin was both relieved and even more distressed as he heard that Legolas had no clue to what was happening with his father, that Bilbo had sent him a letter stating that his father had showed up in the Shire, sick with orc poison and unwell. The Hobbit hadn't gone into great deal from the letter that Legolas presented him, but it was enough to make Thorin decide what he should do. "We need to go to the Shire then. At least we know he is alive and safe now, but I wonder why he would go to the Hobbits. Not here." He muttered, cursing about stubborn elves as he moved to gather up his supplies and weapons for the long trip. Of course his companions refused to be left behind and so all fourteen dwarves and Legolas rode out, heading west towards the Shire.

Thranduil Son of Oropher
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was utterly humiliating to say the least, Thranduil was in a crises beyond measure that could claim his life. He had two arrows that belonged to the Orcs that pierced the top of his leg. It was so that he sought help from a hobbit that stolen his dungeon keys within the Elven Realm prison right under his guards noses.

He came to the Shire because he hoped for peace to lick his wounds and re-gather his strength but word came swiftly of his injuries and his current wear about. Gandalf the white was present at the time and helped bring him in, been as he the hobbit size bed wasn't long enough for Thranduil's legs Gandalf had made a make shift bed on the long table in Bilbo's home. Thranduil felt ridiculous at this point. This wasn't what was meant to happen, separated by his people and men and his Elk he felt defenceless which wasn't a good look.

"Is that really necessary?" He asked the wizard. He was delirious at this point he could barely focus. A blanket was on him, His hair was a mess, everything about this was wrong Bilbo had been replacing the a flannel in the tempt of bringing down the temperature. Gandalf was doing everything in his power to hold him since they didn't have enough man power.

Elrond didn't bother knocking when he heard Thranduil's grunting, he was followed by Haldir, Trauriel and Galadriel who answered the swift call from Gandalf immediately all of them took their positions. Galadriel only came on behalf of Gandalf's request the healer. Bilbo looked at the king he bit his lip and chosen not to get involved now that the actual healers were their.

As he was walking out to get some air he could still hear Thranduil's grunting as Galadriel's changing began joining in unison with Trauriel. The men however remaining to hold him down as he tried to get up to move away from the main of the two arrows within, Elrond had brought the arrows out as Trauriel had used the remedy that was suggested as the white light came over Thranduil as they finished binding the leg.

Bilbo noticed that Elves men were gathered around his house they remained on watch as he noticed a group of company his old friends were coming down the path way the elves guards eventually let the company through that was lead by Thorin.

"Thorin!" Bilbo was confused to why the leader of Dwarves were here. As usual his house was crowded by Elves and now Dwarves. He spotted Legolas who quickly dismounted his horse said his hello before swooping past him immediately they could hear Thranduils grunting when Legolas opened the door. "Gandalf had set word to the Elves they came here soon as they heard that Thranduil was here."

"I found him a group of hobbits were trying to see if he was alive or not by poking him with a stick unaware of who he was."

Mean while Thrainduil was in and out of consciousness. He didn't want anyone creating a fuss.

Thorin was overwhelmed by the amount present in Bilbo's small abode over Thranduil's presence. Elves, dwarves, and a single hobbit. Before Thorin could even push through to check on the elf king, Legolas had entered and sought his father immediately. The elf prince had been a long journey with his companions, not much word spent between him and his father and so to have news from Gandalf that his father was in the Shire, ill and injured, had come as a shock. Aragorn had given him immediate permission to leave Gondor, knowing that his father was more important to him than the realm of men at this time. The newly crowned king would handle affairs until he got further word on the situation. "Ada, speak to me. What happened? Who did this to you?" Legolas asked, but he could tell that his father was having a hard time staying conscious and didn't think he'd get any information until he was stable. Even now, as a grown elf, it shocked him to see his strong father so weak. Never before had Thranduil been in this situation, always a steady rock for Legolas despite there being times they didn't meet eye to eye. Legolas couldn't fathom anyone having the power or sway to overpower his father.

Thorin sent Balin and a couple other dwarves to see if they could help Gandalf and the other elves heal Thranduil while he turned to Bilbo. "Has he told you what happened? Why would he come here of all places? I know he named you elf-friend but to travel this distance in his position, it's concerning." He asked, a deep frown on his face before his brows knit together and he felt a strong wave of nausea hit him. He stumbled and leaned into a nearby table, groaning as he held his stomach. "I do not know what befalls him, but it is strange and I have become affected since news reached me." Well a little sooner than that, he thought as he reached out to touch the broken amulet.

This was a boring nuisance, he hated the idea of people fussing around him needlessly. What happened? he wondered himself, he got separated from his men, his Elk when the black sorcerer over powered him. For years he had held the black force of nature back to where he should be but with this strange nauseous feeling he felt. It distracted him unable to fulfil his duties as a guardian of the front lines. He was supposed to be protecting not being protected.

Thranduil felt helpless, tired exhausted he wanted to sleep but with so many busy bodies. Thranduil forced himself up right to meet his son's worried gaze. Thranduil reached out to touch it with his slender fingers. To many people he had always been told he was cold hearted he rarely showed affection to anyone.

Balin looked to Legolas with a equal worried gaze. "They were over powered by Mordor's army. Thranduil should've asked for help when his defences were broken, Orc over powered them. They were small amount of minority that he was travelling doing the normal patrols but got separated by his Elk and the army that were escorting with him." He gave a heavy sigh stroking his chin. "You know how stubborn he is, my guess he picked the shire as a safe heaven to recuperate since no one would expect Thranduil to be there. The mountains would've been an wiser choice, our king would've protected him". Balin stated patting Legolas on the hands.

"He'd be in good hands. "He had two Orc arrows in his leg's but something else is disturbing me about him." Balin said no more of the matter and allowed Legolas to go to his father side and walked out the house to report to Thorin.

"The Elves have done they're best he's out of harms now he had two arrows in his legs. He'd be good as new by sunrise you can see him once the Elves make more room they've let you in. I think he wanted a safe refuge. Coming to our mountains, I think he was trying to trick the Dark Lord Sauron, worried about the eye fixing on our mountains." Balin knew that Thranduil would've have thought ahead. Coming to the shire which is completely off grid.

"It's off grid else where only a few know about it but it's a huge risk on those that dwell here."
