Damn. The slender brunette cursed under her breath, crisp air rushing to her very core. Nights like these made her miss the summer time that much more - god how she hated being cold. Quickly she shoved her hands into the pocket of her jacket and fumbled for her pack of cigarettes. Scott will kill me if he finds out I’m smoking again, the thought passed through her mind as she placed one between her lips.
“Come on…“ she hissed, fighting to light the sucker against the wind. She could hear her fiancé voice now, is that seriously worth freezing your ass for, Mia? As if the man had been truly standing in front of her she rolled her hazel hues and took a dramatic inhale. At this point, it wasn’t only worth it…but necessary. After a day of dealing with nonstop assholes, smoking was her last concern. Especially since her night had only started.
Mia took a long, final drag before snuffing it out on the bottom of her heel and tossing it into a nearby garbage bin. Her gaze moved to the dull glow from her cellphone, already expecting it to be later than she wanted, the time staring back didn’t come as a shocker, 9:53. Her destination was clear across the city, a place called The Serpent’s Nest. The popular nightclub had been on police radar for months now.
Not only was this her first solo gig, but her first time going undercover. Mia kicked aside her nerves when she accepted the case - tonight would leave no room for mistakes. She smoothed down the front of her of her torso, a small laugh leaving her gloss stained lips. When was the last time I wore a dress? Second grade? The sight of herself “dolled up” was odd, if it wasn’t slacks and blouses for work..it was sweats and baggy shirts.
“The goal is not to look suspicious. Just merely going to enjoy the music and blend in..“ Mia thought out loud. Before she wrapped up further into racing thoughts a yellow cab pulled along the curb. Without allowing a moment to hesitate she slipped onto the backseat, awkwardly tugging at the ends of her fitted dress - careful not to reveal the gun tightly holstered against her thigh. “Um-..64 Morris Street, please, I’m in a bit of a rush..“ she stumbled, almost forgetting the address.
