This is for all those who want to list the lyrics to their favorite old songs. The rules are simple. Nothing after 1995. It has to be listed as classic, being at least 25 years old. It has to be a chart topper from billboard's top 100. Give the year and where it peaked. Use mine as the example:

Remember, the time of the 50s was teen idols and some words had a different meaning than they do today. Keep everything in context and look at all the lyrics before judging.

Song; Venus
Singer: Frankie Avalon
Year: 1959

Ey Venus! Oh Venus!
Venus if you will
Please send a little girl for me to thrill
A girl who wants my kisses and my arms
A girl with all the charms of you.

Venus make her fair
A lovely girl with sunlight in her hair
And take the brightest stars up in the skies
And place them in her eyes for me.

Venus,
Goddess of love that you are,
Surely the things I ask
Can't be too great a task.

Venus, if you do,
I promise that I always will be true.
I'll give her all the love I have to give
As long as we both shall live.

Venus,
Goddess of love that you are,
Surely the things I ask
Can't be too great a task.

Venus if you do,
I promise that I always will be true
I'll give her all the love I have to give
As long as we both shall live.

Hey Venus! Oh Venus!
Make my wish come true.

Ooh, time to shine. <Cracks knuckles>
I hope 1977 isn't too recent :D

Song: Hotel California
Band: The Eagles
Year: 1977
Peaked: #1

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night

There she stood in the doorway, heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself, "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
Then she lit up a candle, and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor, thought I heard them say:

"Welcome to the Hotel California!"
"Such a lovely place"
"Such a lovely face"
"Plenty of room at the Hotel California"
"Any time of year"
"You can find it here!"

Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called at the captain, "Please bring me my wine"
He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since 1969"
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night, just to hear them say:

"Welcome to the Hotel California!"
"Such a lovely place"
"Such a lovely face"
"They livin' it up at the Hotel California"
"What a nice surprise"
"Bring your alibis!"

Mirrors on the ceiling, pink champagne on ice
And she said, "We are all just prisoners here, of our own device"
In the master's chambers, they gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
"Relax," said the night man, "we are programmed to receive"
"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!"

Song: Where Everybody Knows Your Name
Artist: Gary Portnoy
Year: 1983
Peaked: #83

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you got
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot
Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
You want to be where you can see
Our troubles are all the same
You want to be where everybody knows your name

(Verses only heard on the radio, or single)

All those nights when you've got no lights
The check is in the mail
And your little angel
Hung the cat up by it's tail
And your third fiancé didn't show...

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
You want to be where you can see
Our troubles are all the same
You want to go where everybody knows your name

Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead
The morning's looking bright
And your shrink ran off to Europe
And didn't even write
And your husband wants to be a girl...

Be glad there's one place in the world
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
You want to go where people know
People are all the same
You want to go where everybody knows your name

Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came

Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came

Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
Where everybody knows your name.
