Conflicts errupted, with many nations treating the dimensional travellers as foreign invaders, preemptively striking at the beings that came out of the portals, with very few nations seeking a more peaceful solution. When the chaos died down, thousands died on both sides, and a peace treaty was established. The travellers were revealed to all come from different worlds, proving the existence of parallel universes.
By this time, reservation areas were set in place all over the world for these travellers, though tension between human and the travellers (Often called Demon as a slur) remained.
Neo Kowloon is one such Reservation, originally built by the United Nations across the water from Hong-Kong, and now a lawless chaotic place where only the strong thrives.
When the Old Kowloon was levelled by a portal, the Chinese Government used the chaos to send their military elite into Hong Kong with the guise of protecting the city from the interdimensional invaders. Propaganda flowed like rivers, driven onwards by the catalyst of many fascist regime: Fear of a common enemy. Once, the Western World served this role, but they were such a distant enemy, seen mostly in the media, but the Demons? They were right across the water, where once Kowloon stood. Before long, Hong Kong embraced the protection of the motherland.
Now two cities stand side by side, a place of oppresive order, and one of anarchy and freedom. Welcome to the border between heaven and hell.
Factions
Vatican Knightly Orders
The Vatican Knightly Orders is as old as the Catholic Church itself. It is believed that the dimensional gates have existed for a long time, in smaller scales, and it was the task of the Knightly Orders to hunt down whatever came through. Now, with interdimensional beings settling down on earth, the Vatican's stance is clear.
The previous pope had a more peaceful policy with Interdimensional beings, but the new one outright branded them as demons, here to bring about the end of the world. Thus Vatican is divided into two factions, purists and progressives: Each one with their own knightly orders, special operatives trained for generations to fight the dangers from beyond this realm.
Kowloon Syndicates
There are two kind of demons that existed outside of the reservation zones: Those who legally received citizenship through a lengthy naturalization process, and those who escaped them and live illegally outside the reservation zones. Both types were often not very well received by human society.
Stuck in a world that sees them as monsters, the demons had to band together in order to survive. The Demonic Syndicates is not one entity, but many different organizations connected through a network, with one goal in mind: To carve a home for demons in this new world, at any cost. In Neo Kowloon, the Syndicates didn't even have to hide. They exist right there out in the open. This was their kingdom now, and they will do anything to protect it.
Red Vanguard
It had been quite some time since the Communist Party of China geared up for a war that never came. Tension was there with the west for many years, but (luckily for the world) no one pulled the trigger. With the dimensional exodus and the sudden influx of otherworldy beings, the CCP found itself a new source of military might: Interdimensional Artifacts. They aggresively hoarded whatever object of powers they can get their hands on, legally, or otherwise.
The Red Vanguard is the first of their new-breed of soldiers, equipped with artifacts, both the ones they obtained, and mass produced copies of them, and the vanguard had been spoiling for a fight.
Zeta Megacorp
Once an international entity and a lead runner in the Forbes Global 2000, Zeta had seen better days. With the government employing new policies limiting the freedom of the private sector in Hong Kong, their once mighty business empire began to falter. Still, Zeta holds much sway in the city of Hong Kong, and if they have to do things under the table every now and then, that was perfectly fine.

A parisian at heart, the young woman was a romantic at heart, and while most mercenary fights for money, she fights for love.
Her beloved fiancee took a bullet for her on their last outing, and the damage was gruesome. Organs had to be replaced with cybernetic implants and his quality of life was impaired greatly. The only way he could return to his old life was with Bio-Organic implants, but that technology is new and costly, nowhere near accesible enough for the public.
One day, she'd gain enough money to make him whole again and they can finally retire from the business.
Name: D'eastuvi'arkantvara. A.K.A Desdemona

Like any Demon, Desdemona had to rebuild her life from scratch in this strange new world. Desdemona runs an escort service in New Kowloon, but not just any escort service. Her clients range from powerful local players, to Government officials from across the water. Secrets are her currency, and she trades them relentlessly, enough to make her not only a wealthy entrepeneur but also a well respected member of the Kowloon Syndicate.
Name: Melissa Fang/ Fang Meixiang

A former pilot in the brief human-demon conflict, Fang Mei's vessel was brought down by a winged demon. She was overqualified for the job, but this was as far a she was willing to go, her days in the frontline is long gone but deep down, she still want to protect her country.
Character Creation
Simply put, you can be anything you want. I want a partner that is willing to immerse themselves in the setting, even if it takes some effort, so go crazy. You can be an expat coming into the chaotic place that is New Hongkong or New Kowloon, a demon trying to rise above the harsh life in the reservation, a regular joe trying to make ends meet in the city, surprise me.
