Prologue: The following is an excerpt from The Beginners Guide to the Beginning by Clifford Hollowcrest. “In the beginning there were only the gods. There was originally only one god. A being only in thought and existence. It only existed to exist, almost nothing more. Almost. It was nameless and shapeless. Yet stood for everything. This god is usually referred to as The Origin. Whenever this being experienced a thought or emotion, it was expressed in a way that can only be described as godlike. This god was not able to speak, yet made children to speak for him. From his thoughts and emotions came more gods, eventually hundreds overtime. This period in time is usually referred to as The Era of the Gods. As time went on a society of gods was created. Over a period of indiscernible time the gods had eventually created everything that could be created. There was a god that portrayed every emotion, action, item, lifestyle, and thought. Everything had been done. There was only one thing left to do. Most gods had come to the conclusion that it was time to ascend. What is ascending? No one truly knew. Some gods thought that ascending was necessary. Some were more naïve. Others argued the process for the sake of arguing. The gods aimed to create more beings like them. At the time new gods could only come from The Origin. No god had been created for a long time. The Ascension was a solution to this. The ascension is the act of accepting your end so that you may have a new beginning. All of the gods gathered and decided that it was finally time to ascend. After all of the gods had ascended, their spirits all shifted to their favorite place on their plane of existence. From there, they all shifted to what is called the plane of ascension. After they ascended came The Era of Man. The plane of the gods had reverted back many millennium. The plane of the gods had reverted back to its creation. During this process came forth the world we know today. Men, women, and monsters of many races and species were created. They are different from the gods in 3 main ways. They are not nearly as powerful as the gods. They are able to create new beings in ways other than by The Origin, but we are able to die. Lastly, they have personalities and beliefs that are specific and can change over time. Though the gods now live on a different plane from us, it is still possible to commune with them. The gods left behind their own shrines and temples. The shrines in temples are in the place where the god had moved to the ascension plane. Many people go to the gods to ask them for favors or power. The gods play an important part in today's world. Though we are not sure to what extent the gods are able to control our world, we imagine it to be immeasurable. The most important way that gods impact our lives, is surprisingly through politics. Many countries are supported or sponsored by one, if not many gods. If not already, at some point in time your life will be affected by a god.”

The world we live in is unpredictable. However, one thing is certain. Eventually, we will have to ascend. We find our adventurer in the country of Xerspolk, in the town of Delinio. We can find her in the center of town on Riggald Boulevard. Littered upon the street are different shops and restaurant stalls. This is the beginning of her road to ascension.

Long were her footsteps yet excited was her pace as she trounced around the town market. Never had she seen so many people and things gathered in one place, surely a form of ascension being that her perspective as a small town girl, daughter of a wheelwright, would come to such a magnificent place as Delinio. The smells and sights were certain to overwhelm the girl whose own experience was much smaller to the hustle and bustle of this city, yet the impetus that she carried to broaden such perspective was commendable, if only the way she did it was not foolish.

It had been two weeks since she stole away from home in the dead of night. Two weeks of treading along the road in the midst of the wilderness alone. Many close calls nearly claimed her, the practically defenseless girl fending for herself with little in the way of belongings or supplies. But against all odds she had made it to this town, her hunger hardly being called in to question. That was until she smelt the sweet breads baking in the morning sun.

The silver haired girl wore simple clothes of a peasant. A white tunic, black coat, and leather pants she had stole from her mother on this journey. On her back a small pack carried most of what she needed or owned.

Tessadora hung close to the baker’s stall, nose sniffing the air as the whiffs of breads of all sorts filled her nostrils, the hunger she had not considered creeping up in her stomach suddenly as she salivated over what the baker labored.
