Millie had been with Kai since they were in high school. She was a Sophomore and he was a Junior and he looked so tragically alone. People seemed to avoid him, and he seemed to avoid people, and her bubbly nature just couldn't allow that. So, she introduced herself to him; and while the sudden presence seemed to startle him, he didn't turn her away. In fact, he seemed rather welcoming to have her speak to him. She believes to this day that what caused her to fall in love with him first was his eyes. They are such a deep and unnatural shade of blue and she just found it so entrancing.
"Do you wear contacts?" She had asked, "Your eyes are too beautiful to be real."
"Ah," he became embarrassed, "no, they're real. I heard that a lot growing up."
"They're gorgeous." She told him breathlessly. That was it. That was all he needed to know from that moment on she had to be his. She was beautiful, she was kind to everyone, and she wasn't frightened of him straight away. He could never really connect with people, not even his own parents, so he had a hard time making friends - let alone keeping them. And here she was, talking to him about anything and everything under the sun. He listened to her talk for hours, every break period he just listened to her voice. He paid attention to every detail, every octave, every mood shift, her body language, all of it. He took everything she did to memory, every interest she had, things she hated or made her uncomfortable. He made every part of her life a part of his.
He asked her to be his girlfriend during the winter formal, an event he wasn't particularly fond of but he saw how excited she was about it. They even coordinated their color scheme to match; she helped him buy a turquoise button up to match her turquoise dress.
"It makes your eyes stand out…" She had told him bashfully. She didn't need to explain further. Anything that had her gaze on him filled him with life. He bought her a gemstone ring - a purple mojave turquoise in a simple copper wire band, it was her favorite gemstone in the world.
"One day, I'll put it on a nicer band for you."
"When will that be?" She asked excitedly. He held her hand before lacing their fingers together slowly.
"When you're ready to be my wife…"
They had been together since high school, but she didn't know just how crazy he was for her. No one could look at her, no one could talk to her, no one could do anything unless he deemed them as less than a threat. She had blossomed much more since their school days, she was far more beautiful than the day they met. She always had male coworkers approach her, talk to her. Breathe her same air. He couldn't stand for it, so being one of the executives at the office they were both employed at made it easy for said men to be removed from that floor to a new one. Away from her. She never caught on, and he trusted she never would. She was whip smart but God was she naive. He didn't like hearing her be called a bimbo around the office; despite the truth to it, no one was allowed to point out her flaws.
