Bringing work home on the weekend is big feels-bad-man. Got some leisure writing done, not as much as I'd liked, but hard to write more after grinding through 22-pages of b o r i n g. Definitely didn't blow all my free time today on slapping graphics around instead. Weirdly enough, fiction writing always gets me more into other vaguely 'creative' stuff too. Been blasting music way more since I came back to bmr. Got super into graphics too. Busted out my tablet for the first time in ages to mess around with the eraser tool. Overall, pretty happy with the final product. Not sold on the smoke. Good smoke stock that's free, where find. ;_;

Still torn if smoke is even the way to go either, but looks nice coming from the corner. A pretty big part of me kind of want to just lean into fire everything. I kind of like the fire draft version I did, but the flames look a little...jarring? Or maybe I just need more layers? Unsure. Pretty interesting for my first actual foray into messing around with more than vector layers & curves. Might make something else, might not.​

无归城 The City of No Return

An ambitious namesake, the might and arrogance of Wei laid bare. Blessed by geography, nature and manmade marvel working in tandem, the vaunted fortress boasts: "come, if you dare, but know this, any who dares marches against Wu Gui shall never return." An imperious proclamation supported by the black ink of history - since its construction, Wu Gui has never fallen.

And that wouldn't do. Wouldn't do at all. Because the steel steeds of the Qin would not be stopped.

Swords. Spears. Warhorses and warbanners. Seemingly boundless manpower eclipsed only by its ruler's ambition. Wu Gui must fall, the Emperor of Qin commands it. And yet, after a siege that spanned three seasons, Wu Gui yet stands, and the army of Qin lay wasted in the fresh fallen snow.

A devastating blow, but the ambition of the Qin is unceasing. As voracious as the ocean, and as limitless as the sky. Wu Gui must fall.

A grudge writ in history and blood, and so –

If its walls cannot be breached, what of the warriors that defend the fortress? What of the aging General, a decade and a few past his prime? Does age impart wisdom, or does it instill hubris and blunt good sense?

Unknown and unknowable, but a thought worth exploring. A viable angle of attack.

To siege that infallible city, perhaps the trick is to first siege the much more fallible heart.

And so, in that tale as old as time, enter center stage the beauty enshrined in red. Assassin? Nothing quite so simple. As if the infallible city could be felled with quite so basic a trick.

No, it would not be as simple as a decisive beheading of the dragon. The Wei bloodline thrums in strength across the generations.

Where is the out, the outplay? Seduce, for survival, or for the start of something more genuine?

The banners await their day under the sun. The leather stretched taut over the war drums. Steel-plated war stallions hoof at the ground, and the gleam of swords and spears demand blood sacrifices. The battle, it calls!

Amidst the chaos, the looming destruction, is there any hope for anything more than death and lust?

Is this another bad end bait, or a story of true love conquering all?

Who knows, maybe we'll find out if I could ever be bothered to write this. XD
