To say that Cary was not hopeful was an understatement. He knew what he was doing, he had done it many times before, and yet this did not seem like it was going to be an easy task. He was sent by his king to meet with the horde that had been ravaging the land and build a relationship with them. He didn't think they would be interested. They seemed much happier as they were but Cary was to build their relationship with the aim of bringing them in as an ally. They would get trade, money, land, and his king would get a group of barbarians that he could use as soldiers and an end to the terrorising of his people. Cary thought that his king was too hopeful about this. They would be lucky if they could get a slowing to the pillaging.
Despite his worries, he was still going into this with his aims set. He would try his best, he would succeed as best he could. He hadn't failed before, he wouldn't now. So he was on his way to meet with the king of the barbarians. Whatever his attitude, Cary and the small group that were with him would stay with the tribe until they came to some sort of agreement. Cary could only hope that it would be a quick meeting.
