Abbey felt nervous as she fidgeted with the strap of her watch, looking outside as examined the neighborhood. Every property here was probably worth tens of millions of dollars, definitely the most upper end neighborhood in the whole city. Even her Uber driver seemed a bit impressed as he drove around the quiet streets of the neighborhood. There were a lot of trees, almost forests really and hidden away behind walls and tall cedar hedges were humongous mansions here and there. Abbey had never imagined herself in such a role, but the money was simply impossible to turn down. At $100 per hour, five days a week with three days where she is expected to stay 'in residence' overnight, Abbey would end up grossing $8,800 per week. For a freshman in College, this was simply a gargantuan amount of money.
But Abbey was also nervous because of the unusual circumstances surrounding her tutoring position. She knew that her pupil, Mr. Damian Wolfe, was basically her age, that he was enrolled in bio-chemistry just like her and that she would effectively be required to attend all of the same classes, remotely of course, as her pupil. So this was more than a tutoring position, she would also be his classmate in a way. She also knew that he was Mr. 'Bubble Boy', that he lived in a totally sterile environment and that any germs or bacteria or virus could probably kill him. So the definition of 'special needs' was definitely descriptive of this new job. Abbey didn't actually know how she was doing to do her work in such a situation, but she was assured by Mr. Wolfe's assistant that everything would be fine.
Abbey had almost taken a job as a model in order to supplement her scholarship. Her goal to stay debt free during her academic career was important to her since her parents were not really rich and she didn't want to end up being a burden on them. Thankfully, Abbey was really smart, Valedictorian of her school and a nice scholarship to boot. The job of model would probably have allowed her to stay debt free, but the special tutor job was just so much more money, she could actually afford to send money back home to her mom and dad to help them financially, so she simply could not resist. She did feel a bit apprehensive about knowing that she would not get the full College experience given that the only classmate she would ever be with is Damian Wolfe, that she would never really attend classes on campus proper. But she figure that doing this for a couple of semesters, maybe three, would give her the financial freedom she needed. Besides, Abbey had never been 'a party girl', also her nose in books, always a total nerd. A lot of people thought she was weird, not because she was a nerd or a bookworm, but because Abbey was simply the hottest girl around and she never really took advantage of her looks, never really played the 'popular girl' game in high school. Abbey actually felt a bit ill at ease with all of the attention she captured, with all these boys and men staring at her wherever she went.
"We're here" said the Uber driver, as Abbey stared out of the window. 'Holy shit' she whispered as she stared at this massive modern complex of interconnected buildings. This was definitely bigger than just a mansion and the grounds were absolutely huge. This would actually be a long walk from the street to the front door. With a sheepish smile on her face, Abbey would look at the Uber driver and say "Thanks". It was obviously she was super nervous, what was she getting herself into?
Stepping out of the car, Abbey would go to the front gate and ring the bell. A voice would say "Yes?" and Abbey would reply "Um... Hi. This is Abigal Chase, I'm here to..." but she would be interrupted as the person on the other side simply said "Come in and make you way to the front door" as a buzzer could be heard. Abbey was able to push the metal door open and let herself into the property past the fence and gate.
It would actually take Abbey a couple of minutes to make her way all the way to the front door. Once there, she would ring the bell and wait for someone to answer. She felt so nervous, particularly considering that she didn't think she was properly dressed for working in such a massive mansion, the plain white t-shirt and jeans simply not really measuring up suddenly...
Abbey fidgeted with the strap of her watch again, one of her usual nervous ticks, as she waited for someone to answer the door....
