Question Date Read

When I send someone a private message, especially the start of a new conversation but also just any ol' post, and later check the when it was last read thing, it's very often saying the exact time I sent it. Enough so that I'm worried it's a bug and people aren't getting notifications? Is this a thing, or...?

It's just how the site displays a read receipt unfortunately. It's not the best indicator of when the message was received, but it does let you know the message has been viewed.

Rest assured, if you hit send, the message will be delivered.

I would like to sort of add to this by asking about how in some PM conversations this functionality does not appear whatsoever, or that it says "Last read: Unknown" even when there are replies to the conversation.

People can hide their view of PMs in their settings.
