St. Mary’s Academy for the Extremely Gifted was a Private school located in the woods of the City of Annandale. It was a large mansion that was highly secluded and it was really tough to get into. The wealthy always wanted their kids to get in, but the school refused about 90% of them. But those people misinterpreted the title; they thought that the Extremely Gifted part meant that the school was full of wealthy intelligent beings, never once thinking that it was a school for mutants.

Sighing slightly, a girl flew over the campus; she was both a student and a teacher. She had started school there when she was just a mere six year old, now being around seventeen, she was able to teach the younger classes while she kept going to school for both educational purposes and to help her control her ever changing powers that seemed to grow each month. She sighed as she landed in the center of Campus, her feathered wings folded behind her as she walked over to the gate where one of the older teachers was waiting. She also saw a student with him, “Hello Sir.” She said gently.

The man nodded, “Hello Kim. Good flying. But I need you to help this lovely student.” He said calmly.

The girl nodded, “Of course. Spike is teaching today and Ed is out recruiting, so I have nothing to do.” She said softly before she held out her hand, “Shall we get going then? We have a lot of ground to cover.”

The fact that he was being escorted into and around the school by some girl who was around his own age was not something Josh was happy about. Not only had his parents taken him away from the place he had grown up, away from his friends, away from everything he had known so far in this world, but now he was going to be escorted by some flying girl around this ridiculous school after being shepherded in by some other guy who no doubt had some freakish power of his own.

Running a hand through his short, spiked, jet-black hair, Josh sighed as he ignored the girl's hand walking past her towards what looked like the biggest part of the school, all the way trying to avoid staring at the girl's wings with his green eyes. Striding down some random path he didn't even care if she was following he thought back to the last time he had done something with his powers and his parents had completely lost their mind with what to do.

To tell the truth, Josh had always wanted to be something special, fed up with the boring routine that his parents called school life. But he had never imagined that he was different to everyone around him. It had occurred during one of the monotonous weekdays, sitting in an exam as he rolled his pen back and forth over the paper, trying to think of something to write. Letting go of the pen though he felt shocked to see the pen still move back and forth without him touching it. From then on, Josh had kept it to himself, not even letting his parents know what he had done, though with a little practise, Josh found he was alright controlling this weird new power. But one day he had lost his temper with his parents, and long story short, he had thrown a few plates off the dinner table in rage. The fear in his parents eyes were something that would never leave him, and they had seemed kind of glad to get rid of the boy who had 'those weird powers'.

"So when do they serve food here, and where am I sleeping?" Josh called over his shoulder to the girl, bringing himself back to reality.

She ran after him and sighed, choosing not to fly, "Breakfast is around eight, lunch is at noon and dinner is around six or seven. Then there is a midnight part that is at midnight for the nocturnal people." she explained as she walked next to him, "I'll show you the dorms when we get closer to them." she added as she turned and dodged a blast of fire, "Andrew! Do that one more time and I'll get Sam on you! She'd love to cool you off!" she shouted to the boy before the stench of singed feathers hit her nose. She groaned as she turned and patted the smoke on her wings, "There goes an hour of my time..."

After getting most of the heated parts cooled off, she went back to Josh, "So, did you come on your own or did someone force you to come?" she asked curiously as she slipped her hands into the pockets of her jacket, "Either way, I hope you like it here...for a lot of us it is the only home we have. If we go out into the normal world, a lot of us are criticized because of how we look. While others just feel at home here. But we try to be as normal as possible in case a normal person is on the campus." she explained as she walked.

She soon stopped in front of a building and looked at her watch, "Lunch is about to start, want to go in and grab something to eat?" she asked gently.

Noting the times in his head, Josh nodded, trying to pay too as little attention to the woman as possible. At the moment he was too busy trying to sort out how this was truly going to work in his head. How would coming here help him in the long-run? Sure people here had powers but controlling them was something completely different. Yet everyone here seemed happy with what was going on, like it was all perfectly normal to be like this.

Hearing the complaints from the woman and the smell of singed feathers in the air put a smirk on Josh's face, it showed that not everyone here was as easy to control as people would first think. Though the idea kind of thrilled and scared Josh at the same time, if people had powers as equal or stronger than his own than surely it would be dangerous for people to be around them.

"Well I'll admit it was a bit of both, parents wanted me here and I wanted to out of there." He smiled a little at the comment then looked at the building she stopped outside. "Lunch sounds good. What's the food like?"

"It is best to get away from family...or so I've heard. I was orphaned after being born. I was raised here. So I don't really know about the whole family thing. But there should be someone here who can help you if you need it. I might be one of them...my powers still have not stopped changing...it is rather annoying really. I lose control about once a month." she explained before she looked at him, "The food is okay. It is not five star hotel quality...but it is better than most schools." she said calmly, "And it is buffet style." she added as she held the door open, "Shall we go eat then?" she asked curiously revealing a large room that had three large buffet bars.

She smiled as she adjusted the bag that she had that had her school books in it. She was planning on studying when her teacher had called her. Though she had to admit, she did like helping those that were new to the campus.
