Life had been hard for Alex, well not just for Alex, it must have been hard for his sister as well, but that would be digressing slightly. The truth was, when things became hard, Alex left, no word to his parents, no note to them explaining why he had left, where he had gone, what he was going to do. The only remains he left was a ring and a note to his sister explaining that he couldnât take it any more, that he felt like he would lose it if he lived in that house any more, and a single promise within that note, that he would try to write and would come back to her someday.
With this one act, Alex severed all ties to the parentâs he once knew, and he tried to keep his promise to the girl he left behind. He knew he was a coward to run away, to not stand up and stop what was going wrong, hell, he was a bigger coward to just disappear from his sister like that. The fact that they had been siblings, that deep down they did love each other even though they got into the usual sibling rivalry, made Alex feel guilty, he had always fought to protect her from all the evils in the world; to be there for her when she fell over and hurt herself; the nights when their parents would argue and he would go into her room, placing his hands over her ears so she could go back to sleep; to the time she split up with her first boyfriend, holding her against him as she cried all the sorrow away. Alex had always tried to be there for her and since he left his family behind he felt he had let her down, betrayed her almost.
Keeping his word, Alex had wrote to her, though he never left a way for her to get back to him, just in case his parents somehow read it and decided to see him. But recently Alex had been slower with his letters, hearing from some of his old friends that she had moved out, that she had finally decided to live on her own, to survive without her parents and the thought made him happy, but also Alex had felt an incredible need to see her again, to tell her he was sorry for what he did, that he was a coward for running away, to beg for her forgiveness. Due to this, Alex managed to get a message to her through an old mutual friend. All he told her was âMeet me where we would go to find peace and quiet. Iâll be waiting five till six everyday.â Alex was still fearful that his parents would find him, but with this Alex knew only him and his sister would know where to go.
After the message was sent, Alex began to sit underneath a tree in the park everyday, five till six, his heart hopeful that she would one day turn up, even if it was just to shout at him and tell him to leave her alone. Due to the weather becoming colder, Alex wrapped the coat around himself, the wind whipping his dark hazel hair to the side as his green eyes flitted from one person to the next walking along the path through the park. It was six years to this day that he had left, himself being over twenty-four now, an adult who worked for his living, yet he managed to find time to sit everyday in hopes his sibling would one day decide to see him.
