A small groan passed through the boyâ??s lips as he read his parentsâ?? letter for what seemed like the thousandth time that day. His father lost his job. Sure, his mom worked but that was barely enough to cover the mortgage for their home. There was no way that they would be able to cover his tuition.
But Johnny liked it here. This school had been his home for three years and the education he got here was amazing- of course, Johnny was always a bright and talented student but being in such a prestigious school as this made him all the better. And now he was going to have to leave it. All because of the damn economy going down the shitter and layoffs were the result of that.
Surely there had to be something he could do. The teen ran his fingers through his russet-colored hair in thought, trying desperately to think of a way to get himself out of this situation. He couldnâ??t ask any of the students for help. Although he had many good friends here, he would be utterly humiliating for anyone to know that he had an unemployed father and he was one step away from public school. Most jobs were out of the question, too- most jobs only hired kids that were sixteen and above- and Johnny was one year shy of that.
â??Dammit,â? he hissed, ice-blue eyes shifting to the drawer beside his bed. He had a couple hundred dollars stashed away for safe keeping- money he had saved from Christmas and Birthdays. However, he knew that wasnâ??t even close to enough to cover even a semesterâ??s worth here.
Maybeâ?¦ just maybeâ?¦ what if one of the teachers could help him out? He wouldnâ??t go to the headmaster, oh no- that man ran a tight ship here and heâ??d mock the boy for even thinking about asking for an extension or even a loanâ?¦ a professor, however. Sure, there was that handful of educators that the student body abhorred but there were a few kind-hearted ones, too. And they wouldnâ??t make fun of him for being poor like the students would if they found outâ?¦
Johnny rummaged through the drawer and withdrew the bills before stuffing them into the pockets of his uniform. His mind had settled on one professor that maybe- just maybe- would consider his proposalâ?¦ or at least help him come up with some way to ease the financial burden. Maybe even write a letter of recommendation to get a job? Oh well, it was worth a shot. And he didnâ??t even have a class right now. Perfect.
The teen weaved his way through the corridors, avoiding contact with any of the students- usually, he got stopped in the hallways on the way to the dining hall or the bathroom for a chat. But he had no time for that now. He only stopped when he was outside of the professorâ??s doorway, raising his hand before knocking twice on the door.
