"Two meals?"
"Well you gotta be takin' these to somebod' right? Why not join them? Besides, you work hard kid." the chief smiled as he offered both meals. Nodding James smiled brightly and thanked the older man before changing into his street clothes and packed their meals in different bags. James brushed back his thick, chestnut brown hair as he double checked that he had everything he needed on him. Walking during the night, not mentioning looking so different, was not something James wanted. Winter was never a fun time.
As the sky's hue changed from the cool blue into a warm reds and pinks, James took a moment to enjoy the sight. Around him the city still moved yet for a moment there was silence. The city life was always hard for the young man, even more so because of his status. Being poor was one thing, but being poor and seen less masculine really did bring a lot more down on his shoulders. If he had only been a bit taller or had a bit more of body mass he wouldn't always have to be on guard. But, that didn't matter right now. The park was up ahead and that always brought more peace to James before he had to go to his small apartment and prepare for the next day.
The evening air was refreshing to the young waiter's warm face. He had been working since the late afternoon and after a long day of running around to serve others the young man just wanted to relax, although he did need to make a stop by a friend first. In hand there a brown paper bag with that night's meal as well as a few other things such as a scarf and new gloves to keep his friend warm as the season grew cooler. James straighten out his coat and began to look around as he came close to his friend's usual spot. "Hello?" James called out softly, his green-hazel eyes scanning around the area his friend usually could be seen resting. The man he knew to be homeless was kinda and James enjoyed talking to him. It was sadly funny that he would take time out of his day to talk to this man, but he was so interesting! Besides, the man also did not judge James like others did. When James looked to the other's eyes he didn't see anything cruel or seeing himself less than, he saw himself as a equal footing with this man. Unlike others who first glance at James, James felt no such judgement from the homeless man. Be it because James was in a better position compared to that of the homeless or because sooner or later this man would move on, the young man felt no malice whenever the other looked at him.
It was a nice chance. Maybe thats why James began to bring more food to the other or even made a effort to stop by to drop off breakfast. Either way, this was a nice little routine stop to see the older man and be able to talk without the whole world pushing down on his shoulders.
