Janice was crossing the reception towards the main doors of the gym when the woman fell in alongside.
‘Hi, I’ve not seen you before, have I? I’m Chloe.’
‘Hi, Janice. Pleased to meet you. No, I only joined last week. This was my third visit.’
‘Fancy a drink? I certainly do, after a strenuous workout.’
Chloe steered them towards the hotel opposite and made for the bar.
‘My treat, what do you fancy. I’m having a gin.’
‘Yes,’ it was rather early for Janice to start drinking, but today she felt like a drink would be a good idea, ‘thanks, that would be great.’
Chloe pointed across the bar. ‘Let’s sit on that couch. It’s really comfortable.’
A few minutes later she placed a glass and bottle of tonic water on the table in front of Janice.
‘There you are, I’ve made it a double. You look like you need it.’
They sipped their drinks and chatted amicably for a while, before Chloe said, ‘It takes a while to get used to the regime. I mean I’ve discovered muscles I didn’t know I had.’
Janice grimaced. ‘You’re right there, I’m aching in places I’ve never ached before.’
‘I bet,’ Chloe smiled, took a swig, and leaned closer. ‘I know what happened. Want to tell me about it?’
