Gwendolyn, or Gwen as she liked to be called often, had been driving for what seemed to be days until she finally reached her destination. She sat inside of her vehicle for quite a while before she emerged from her vehicle, closing the door and locking the vehicle with the click of a button. Her sunglasses rested on the top of her head while her eyes stared up at the beach house that was directly in front of her. So many fond memories arisen within her because she was where the family spent most of their vacations. There were many great memories and even some not so great memories, as well. Gwen sighed before she put one foot ahead of the other and started a trek up the stairs that lead to the door of the beach house.
Of course, the door was locked but she stood on the tip of her toes to reach over the doorframe and retrieve the key, which was surprisingly still there.
With the turn of the key and the twisting of the doorknob, she pushed the door forward and it opened. A soft smile spread between her red-stained lips while she took a tour of the beach house. Everything was exactly the same and nothing was out of place. Her eyes looked left, right, up and down because she was trying to find something different about the place but couldn't. Gwen walked towards the kitchen and went to the doorframe, where she ran her hand over the markings that showed her and her twin height. They used to always argue about who was the tallest but they were children then so, she thought that she gave some rather compelling arguments. A little laugh came over her as she thought about her words when she was much younger.
Gwen started a trek towards the stairs, which her eyes looked upon the top stair. She'll never forget the time she fell down these stairs but luckily, she had her plushie bear that broke her fall. She climbed up the stairs then went to her old room, where her pictures were still on the nightstand and her favorite blanket was still on the bed. From there, she went inside the other rooms and seen that things were exactly the same as the last time she was there. With the shake of her head, she ran down the stairs and back to the outside, where she unlocked her vehicle and retrieved her three luggage bags then waltzed back inside.
She threw her bags onto her old bed before she started to unpack slowly. She felt as though she needed a break so, with a brisk walk down the stairs and into the kitchen, Gwen found her father's liquor cabinet and smiled softly to herself. Gwen took out a glass from the glass pane cabinets then poured herself some Scotch, which she sipped then licked her lips before she pursued them together. She took another sip before she walked to the back of the beach house, opening the double glass pane doors that lead to the outside. Her eyes went to the patio furniture back there before she inhaled the air then exhaled it. With another sip from her drink, she turned heel to walk back inside then squinted her eyes a bit.
Another vehicle was pulling up and she wondered who that could be. With her glass in hand, she walked to the door to stare out of it with an arched brow. The vehicle in the driveway did look familiar but it couldn't be who she thought it was, could it? Gwen shook away those thoughts then walked outside to get a really good glimpse of who was about to emerge from their vehicle. The suspension was killing her as she chugged the rest of the Scotch down her throat, making a face because of how fast it went down. Gwen stood at the top of the stairs anxiously waiting for someone to appear before her.

Gregory, or Greg, as he irritatingly was often called, had been driving for what seemed like seconds until he finally reached his destination. Time flew by when you were daydreaming, daydreaming of the past and all the things hardships and heartaches that it entailed. As he pulled up, he sat inside of his vehicle for only a moment as he noticed someone inside the house peering out of the doorway before heading back in. He already knew who it was, of course he did, having followed her here to finally get to have his say on everything that was going on. Taking a deep breath, he stepped out of the car, locking it behind him as he gazed up at the beach house with a solemn air. Sometimes you just had to face the past and maybe, maybe him and his sister could face it together in the privacy of their old vacation home.

The door was open as he approached, moving to open the screen door and step inside.

As he stepped in, she could easily see him and the surrealness of the moment was enough to knock the wind out of him when he looked up towards her. His hair the same color as hers, but kept short and professional, his beard trimmed and well kept. His eyes, matching and perfectly accentuated, highlighting the similar intelligence. Yet, where she had always seemed to have a more upbeat and accepting vision of life, her brother’s gaze bore the difference between the two twins. His gaze was cynical and worldly, the kind of look that mentioned a hard life where he had never lived up to his potential. Maybe he was starting to turn it around, but the truth was Greg had been through the ringer.

That was where similarities ended though, other than some vagueness about the face. Fraternal twins, Greg was much taller and had an emphasized athleticism. He was big, big in a good way, and there was for a moment a remembrance of what it felt like to touch his sister and hold her close. Hold her, and other things. Of course, those days were long gone between them, lost in time after the families had been separated, and their parents had frankly been shits. Breaking the two siblings apart in their selfish need to have love in their lives. Greg had never really forgiven their parents for that…and he wondered if Gwendolyn had.

He gazed up at her with that calm look, even after all this time she’d know why he was here, and his hands came to rest on his hips as he took a deep breath and let it out through his nose before speaking. “Hey Sis…long time no see, huh? Think you can spare a few minutes for me?” He did not mention that he had not been invited to her wedding, she would know that too, but…there was probably good reason she had not. A shared past she might not want to be thinking about as she stood in her wedding dress and saying her vows.
