A possible silly question

So as I've been looking through other request threads, I've seen plots, rules and other information people have put into text boxes. I was just wondering how I go about doing that myself.

I've seen people use single table boxes as text boxes before, but am unsure if that's what everyone is doing or if there's cooler things I don't know about.
