“Mrs. Clover’s office, how can I help?” Chanel Oliver answers the call with her blue tooth device as she sat at her brown, sturdy desk with her computer table and what looks like a mess of paperwork to some was her organization method.

“I’m sorry, Mrs. Clover is unavailable at this moment. I can take a message for you and she will reply at her earliest convenience,” Chanel responds to the caller as she looks to Mrs.Clover working on her personal laptop.

Chanel was just some 21-year-old intern, trying to find her big break in the fashion industry. She certainly had the looks to become a model; 5’7, slender body, dark brown hair, green eyes, voluptuous chest, slim-fit waist, plump lips, and glowing clean skin. However, she closed the door on modeling when a skeevy photographer made a pass at her when she turned 18. Chanel made a promise to herself that she would never sell her body to advance her career.

Looks weren’t the only thing she could rely on. Chanel was book smarts and a hard worker. She is currently attending a top college in Marketing and Design. Her boyfriend, James Ryland, was equally as good looking but used his brains to work towards his Computer Science degree and dreamed of pursuing a Masters in Business.

Chanel didn’t give up on her dreams in the fashion industry, she wanted to start her own clothing line and focus on athleticwear and leisurewear. She needed to learn the ins and outs of the fashion industry and what better way than to work for Clover Lingerie which was run by a female C.E.O.

It’s tiresome that males dominate how women dress, Clare Clover was changing that and Chanel wanted to be her protegee. Clover Lingerie is a small company line but is slowly becoming a household name and netting in profits in the millions. Chanel knew that the industry is underestimating Clare Clover and when her clothing line expanded, she is will be seen as queen in the industry.

Chanel ended the call and wrote the message on a post-it note and walked from her desk to Mrs.Clover’s office and opened the glass door gently to avoid making any noises and disturb her process. Chanel place the post-it with a few other post-its I placed early morning.

Chanel knows Mrs.Clover’s time is far more important than others, so the first thing she taught Chanel is her process so she can categorize what’s important and what’s not. If it’s not important it goes on post-its. If it’s important, Chanel has to address it immediately and start an email thread. If Chanel is not able to complete the administration work on her own, then only she can interrupt Mrs.Clover.

The skills set needed to be a successful CEO was to have a razor sharp mind, the ability to act decisively and business acumen. Clare Clover had them in an abundance together with complete confidence in herself. In addition she had quite a ruthless streak with few, if any, scruples. It was largely due to her willingness to take calculated risks that transformed the lingerie company owned by her husband Eric after they were married. In turning it into an effective billion dollar enterprise, she had soon taken full control in running it. Her better half was content in taking more of a backseat while concentrating on gaining investments to finance many of the new lines the 39 year old blonde introduced. Most of her unrelenting traits she had inherited or learned from her father including an aptitude of exploiting people and discarding them when they proved to be have exhausted their usefulness to her.

"You know as well as I, Mr. Clark, the legal bill itself would bankrupt you. I take as read then the order will be delivered in full and by the end of next week." As she ended the call, Clare muttered under her breath something not very favourable about the staff who worked in the purchasing department, before looking up and seeing a message brought in by Chanel. The CEO had other things much more important on her mind but bit her tongue and turned her head to look at her new intern. She had hired the 21 year old not for her administrative prowess, which was hardly average at best, but more as an emergency standby model. It depended upon whether the occasion would arise, but was very likely especially if she took her with her with her during some of her many travels. Another use of the student was also brewing in her head, especially given her hallmark jade green eyes, which her husband had a particular obsession if not fetish about.

"Sooner rather than later, honey, you're going to have to act more on your initiative. Lots of people want to speak top me, most needless." Her tone was neither scornful nor sanctimonious, more a matter of fact, without frills. Her unpretentious smile instead spoke volumes as if Clare was on the intern's side, ready to hold her hand if necessary though in effect telling her that she ought to remain focused and conscientious if she was going to make a worthwhile career for herself. Over the years, several interns passed through the taskmistress's hands, the majority did not last the course, either recognising that they were wasting their time at Clover's Lingerie or to a lesser extent being told in no uncertain terms to hand in their ID cards before they left for the evening. A couple of them had survived the endurance test and were working full-time for the company.

A glance up with a raised eyebrow at the icon Vitra Sunflower clock on the wall should have told Chanel that the time was just past 11 am when coffee should have been on the CEO's desk by now. Nothing else needed says, her fill-in PA was late bringing in her much-needed caffeine refill. On the opposite side was a huge distinctive calendar detailing the various leading fashion shows held throughout the world among other events. Apart from the precious wood veneers and Italian leather inlays of her Italian executive desk together with her premium highback swivel chair, there was little lavish in her office. The only personal item was a framed photograph of herself and her husband between her array of phones and laptop. Just as the student was about to leave to bring her belated refreshment, a sudden thought came to her mind. "By the way, you've got nothing planned tonight, have you?"

Chanel wasn't completely aware of what Mrs.Clover was trying to say, but she nodded simply to agree with her. The rule was simple when, in doubt, don't judge her judgment. From Chanel's perspective, Clare always preferred those who agreed with her. Plus, Chanel was quite overwhelmed with her work, so she occasionally didn't listen to Clare's rambling and nodded as if she was listening.

Chanel had forgotten to get Mrs.Clover's customary caffeine fix at 11 a.m. sharp; she quickly reached for her rose gold iPhone and used a delivery app to bring the coffee to the front door where she would meet the delivery man to pick up her coffee. She didn't mind the extra fees and tips as it ultimately was paid by the corporate credit card.

Chanel looks up at the window to see if the rain had begun since the sky looked dark and gloomy all morning. She put on her green raincoat over her white urban outfitter romper and started to walk out of the office before Clare interrupted and asked if she had any plans for the evening.

Chanel looked back and replied, "Nothing important, Mrs.Clover. My boyfriend and I were just going to do some school work together. did you need me to do anything tonight?"

Chanel isn't used to taking work home, but she understands that once in awhile, situations arise where she may have to do some work after hours. Plus, Chanel was eager to say yes, she had already gotten the opportunity to travel to two different countries in Europe for simply helping Clare manage her work during her travel.
