Personality: On the surface, Annamaria seems timid and easily spooked. In many ways, she can be, but don’t back her into a corner--She’s very much her father’s daughter when backed into a corner, and she’s had to prove it on more than one occasion when men thought that single lady with seeming no family meant whore. Some of them are still looking for teeth or balls. She can play the part of arm candy, but she’s not a whore.
Background: Annamaria was brought up a proper Catholic lady-Catholic school all throughout, church every Sunday and holiday, Confession at least once a week. It was often commented on she was the perfect daughter. Lots of social occasions and charities. There was lots of talk about all the good boys in church who’d make her a fine husband. She wasn’t sure she wanted to be a housewife...And once people found out what the family business was--She doubted those upstanding, sterling boys would be all that interested in marrying into it. If nothing else, they’d be the butt of jokes, or get dragged into trouble by her siblings...She doubted that was a fate any man would want.
Still, she thought there was one boy she might like. She’d started seeing him, and he invited her to go away with him to Europe. He was going to be an ambassador, and Annamarie wanted to marry him and be an Ambassador’s wife...If you were going to be a housewife-it should be one that saw a lot of the world, right? She was going to go tell her father--But the noises that came from the study...She hadn’t heard sounds like that before--She rushed to see what was going on, only to find her father beating her beau bloody...She heard her father shout about how he should have known better than to talk about his baby like that-She had nonidea what had been said, but it had terrified her enough that she backed out of the room, ran to her room, grabbed what valuables were hers, packed a fast bag, and ran away.
She hopped on the first train, and didn't look back for weeks, when she sent a postcard from Canada, letting her mother know she was well. She wasn't too proud to take what honest work she could get as she traveled her way back across the border. She eventually found her way to Los Angeles, and started working at a club. One of those fancy joints her dad always talked about being too swanky for regular folk where all the well-to-do’s and politicians liked to meet up. She met a lot of powerful men. And when one of the singers didn’t show up to work because she eloped with some politician’s son--Annamaria--who had come to be known as Anna Montrose--was told to get up on the stage and sing a few songs soon gained a number of admirers...She only ever sang in church…
Apparently she was very good at it. Her salary went up, and the gifts came rolling in. She was offered bigger and better spots all around the city, then up and down the coast...Each time she knew she was leaving a city, she’d send her family a postcard, letting them know she was alive and well-but nothing else. Sometimes, she’d wish a sibling or one of her parents a Happy Birthday, and send a gift of some sort, if a little belated.
She started to play clubs in Vegas, she even got to sing with popular singers, starlets, writers, and actors...Not to mention a number of politicians from across the world. It was one of the pictures with an actress taken at the club she was contracted to play that made its way into the paper and eventually to her father. Her father made his way to her, found her, and talked her into coming back to New York after explaining what had happened with her ex-beau...He’d gotten drunk and said disgusting things about her...Her father had still stepped over the line. There was no need for all of that...But...Her family missed her, and he agreed to give her the space she needed…
So, she made her way back to New York, under contract as a singer for The Five Spot. She’s only been back for a month, and she’s not sure more than her father knows she’s back in New York, taking up one of the opulent units at 1107 Fifth Avenue...So far, no one has recognized her as Annamaria Muscano-but only as Anna Montrose, the name she’s made for herself.
Other:
Anna only stands at 5’0”
Despite all of her suitors and all the rumored romances and scandals, she’s still a virgin. Whether because of her Catholic upbringing, the fact she hasn’t met the right man yet, or that if she had she was too afraid of what her father and male relatives might do to him is anyone’s guess.
She loves chocolate, and hates pickles.
She speaks English, Italian, Latin, French, and Spanish...Spanish was picked up in her time traveling.
She’s not as racist as others of her class and race--she’s seen a bit too much of the world and met too many wonderful people to be racist and bigoted.
She doesn’t smoke often, but when she does, it’s clove cigarettes.
