The Golden Goddesses, also known as the Old Gods, are Din, the Goddess of Power, Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom, and Farore, the Goddess of Courage. They are the creators of the land that becomes the Kingdom of Hyrule and the extended world that it resides in. It is understood that the Golden Goddesses have always existed, and that they are omnipotent and eternal.

Each of the three Goddesses is associated with a characteristic, common element and color: Din is power, fire and red; Nayru is wisdom, water and blue; Farore is courage, wind and green. They are the creators of the sacred Triforce that is made up of their three associated characteristics of power, wisdom and courage.

Creation of the World
Before time began and before spirits and life existed, the universe was in chaos. The three Golden Goddesses descended upon the chaos and began the creation of the world, each of them creating a different facet of the realm. Din created the material realm, Nayru gave the realm law and order, and Farore created all life forms that would follow the said order.
With their labors completed, the Goddesses departed for the heavens, but not before leaving behind the Triforce, three sacred golden triangles representing a small portion of the essence of the goddesses. Because the power of the Triforce was so great, they trusted the sacred relic to the careful hands of the goddess Hylia so that she could protect it from those who would misuse its almighty power. Since Hylia herself was a goddess, the Triforce was in safe hands, as only mortals would be able to use its power. The Goddesses entrusted the protection of the land they created to Hylia and a legion of spirits and fairies.

The resting place of the Triforce has become the Sacred Realm, the realm above.

The Light Spirits and Sealing Away the Interlopers
The Golden Goddesses appointed four Light Spirits, Ordona, Faron, Eldin, and Lanayru, to protect each of the four regions in Hyrule, Ordon Province, Faron Province, Eldin Province, and Lanayru Province, respectively.

When word of the Sacred Realm and the Triforce spread, a great war ensued between those seeking to wield the ultimate power. During this war, the tribe skilled in dark magic known only as the Dark Interlopers attempted to establish dominion over the Sacred Realm and establish their power using the Fused Shadow. As this war dragged on, three Light Spirits intervened at the behest of the Golden Goddesses. They sealed away the great magic those individuals had mastered, and splintered it to prevent its future misuse. The goddesses chased the interlopers across Hyrule and banished them to the Twilight Realm, the realm below.

Although the Goddesses forbade the Interlopers from returning to the world of light, they left a single link between Hyrule and the Twilight Realm. This link, known as the Mirror of Twilight, was entrusted to the Sages of Hyrule by the Goddesses, who commanded them to guard it and protect it.

During times of strife, the goddesses have each chosen a hero to represent them. It is prophesied that in each age, these heroes will be reincarnated as Ganon, the wielder of Din’s Triforce of Power, Zelda the wielder of Naryu’s Triforce of Wisdom and Link the wielder of Farore’s Triforce of Courage. Throughout the ages, these powers have struggled to maintain balance and their battles have changed the face of Hyrule many times over, from golden age to dystopian ruin and back again.

The Chosen Three

In this age, two of the chosen heroes, Zelda and Ganon each possess rule over their respective lands and maintain a tense but steady peace. The Kingdom of Hyrule and the Gerudo Tribe sit poised with armies ready to invade or defend at any time. However, there is one thing that keeps them held back.

The ruler of the Twilight Realm, Princess Midna, holds an ancient long forgotten power that maintains balance in the world. The long thought destroyed Triforce of Lorule was in her possession, the antithesis of the Triforce that allows the Twili (people of the Twilight Realm) to cross through to Hyrule openly.

With all three pieces of this dark Triforce, it is believed that the Twilight Princess has the power of the goddesses in her grasp and her promise is to trap the two heroes, Zelda and Ganon, in a realm outside of Hyrule to end their struggles for power for all time.

It is believed that Link exists somewhere in this world, perfectly aware of his role. Though his current whereabouts are entirely unknown. His ancient blade, the Master Sword, still rests in the Temple of Time atop the Great Plateau, unclaimed and immovable by any other mortal being.

The Land of Hyrule is a small world, but filled with life, adventure and drama. In the current age, a tense peace envelopes the world. Kingdoms arm themselves for a war that may never come. Ganon, the Gerudo Chieftain, resides and rules over the Gerudo desert and highlands. Zelda, the Hylian Princess, resides and rules over Central Hyrule, Faron, Necluda, Lanayru and Akkala. The Rito rule over Hebra, while their cousins the Zora rule over the region known as Zora’s domain, which is believed to stretch all over the Hylian sea. The Goron hold the region called Eldin, the great volcanic mountain that is inhospitable to anyone who can’t handle its great heat. The Kokiri reside in the Great Forest, though its magical mists keep out anyone they wish not to enter.

There is no known entrance to the Twilight Realm, with control of the Mirror of Twilight, Princess Midna can open a gateway anywhere she wishes. However, it is rumored that there may be an entrance somewhere in the Tanagar Canyon or on top of Mount Hylia. However, these areas are infested with monsters and have quite harsh environments. Few who travel to theses realms are rarely ever seen again.

Relations
None of the primary races are natural enemies, nor natural allies. Despite the goals or morals of their leaders, most people of Hyrule are capable of choosing their own paths. Many travel freely from across borders with little trouble. It is usually only soldiers and agents of those other nations who are looked at with suspicion.

Of all the races, Hylians, Humans and Sheikah get along the best. All part of one kingdom they believe to be just and good. Because of their strong ties, many other races get along with them as well, especially Rito, Gorons and Zora. Because of the Gorons’ fine artisanship, they have strong allies in all the races, other than the Twili and Kokiri who see no need in their stonework, machines or metals. Rito and Zora, despite knowing they are ancient relatives and worship the same deity, Naryu, they have a tense haughty relationship. They get along alright when around other races, but tend to bicker when left alone together. Both the Twili and Kokiri tend to keep to themselves, it is rare for them or leave their realms. They are both fairly self-sufficient and those who leave tend to be merchants or adventurers. Because of their playful and tricky nature, many people see the Kokiri as thieves or immature.

Although the Gerudo are open to others visiting all but their capital city and are welcome in the settlements of other races, they are mostly trusted. However, there is a bit of tension between them, Hylians and Sheikah. Because of their ancient rivalry and the political climate between their nations, agents of their governments are often mistrusted and treated with caution. This also extends to all three races' relations toward the Twili. Although most Twili seem disinterested in politics, as they are a more open and fun-loving race, the other races always eye them suspiciously because of their leaders' possession of the Lorulean Triforce. It is especially rare to see a Twili in the Overworld. Many often suspect they are spies and many even think they are evil due to their impish appearance hiding their true form and reputation of relying on dark magics. However, due to the written truce, all Twili are considered legal ambassadors of the Twilight Realm and it is forbidden to harm them in fear of invoking the wrath of the Twilight Princess.

Population
Hyrule has never been an extremely populous world because there is only one small continent stretching no more than 40 square miles. Hyrule’s largest city, Castle Town, has a population of about 100; smaller villages have between 10-25 people. There is likely no more than a thousand people of the primary races in the world, including the Twilight Realm. Of course, this doesn’t account for all the minor races, such as fairies and monsters.

Chapter One: The Shrine of Resurrection

Cool, comfortable darkness and a distant calming yet ominous music filled the dreams of young Erna. A low whisper broke the serenity of the experience, a quite hiss of sound that started as a quite rustle and grew gradually. A bright line of a dark violet light entered her vision, dim at first, but eventually pulled her closer to lucidity. She felt cold, naked and, somehow, distant. She heard the voice again, less muffled, but still unintelligible. The soft voice commanded her, willed her to come into being.

"Open you eyes..." She heard the gentle tone as she felt a slight dampness on her skin, "Wake up!" She heard a great splash of water as a sweet fluid was ejected from her lungs. Sat up, she could now see her surroundings. She was not at home. They place was more reminiscent of some dark tomb, maybe some kind of structure out of a scary alien movie. The place was ominous. She could not see the ceiling, and with the dim violet light that lit up her surroundings it was hard to see anything at all.

As her eyes adjusted, she realized she was laying in a shallow pool of water. Just deep enough for her to have been completely submerged when she was laying down. It was not water however, the taste was sweet and there was a gentle violet glow emanating from it. This, however, was not the only pool in the room.

Beside her, only a few feet away was another pool, containing someone else. She did not recognize him right away, he looked unusual to her. His dark hair and pointed ears were not reminiscent of anyone she knew, until the form of his face realized he was quite familiar. It was her brother, naked and possibly drowned as he was submerged as she was. Yet, looking closely, she noticed that he was actually breathing. Bubbles formed from the end of his nostrils in the liquid.

The place was dark and small, but she could make out one other object in the room. A pedestal, probably about shoulder high for her, was standing near one of the walls. It has some violet glowing lines running up to what looked like a place to out a hand.

Edna looked around dizzily for the source of the voice, and was greatly agitated by the place and situation too. However, she had to get herself together, and that meant taking a better look at the place, her sleeping half-brother, and seeing that he was not fully himself, checking out herself too. Of course the being naked part meant that she would not wake him up right away. The whole thing looked and felt like a dream, but she was sure she was awake. Thinking back, her whole life seemed more like a vivid dream she just woke up from. Of course, if Josh remembered the same, when he got up later, it must have been real enough to think about when and where they left that place to wake up here, and when -if ever - would they get back to it. Parents, friends, places to go, it was all something that Edna should be caring about, but what popped into her mind was school. And how she didn't minded not having to go for a while, but still thinking about the excuses and consequences if she... they did not get back in a timely manner.

But it really did not seemed that she had any choice being here, so at least she looked for other choices than to just touch the obvious 'place your hand here' pedestal, or try to wake up Josh. He kind of looked peaceful and nice laying there submerged, naked in a glowing violed liquid...

As far as Enda could tell, she and her brother were the only people in the room. There wasn't anything in the room she could see that looked like a speaker or anything that looked like where someone could be speaking through. But also the voice had stopped as soon as she was fully conscious.

Looking at herself, Edna was wearing just as much as her brother. It was kind of hard to see much specific detail about herself due to the unusual lighting in the room. Her skin did seem to be a darker shade, though that could just have been a trick of the light, yet her brother's skin did seem to be much lighter than hers. Searching around the room further, she did notice in front of her the wall had some grooves that might have indicated the far wall might open somehow.

Her brother seemed to continue to breathe and sleep peacefully, he was likely not in any danger. The fluid he slept in seemed to not cause him to drown, it just bubbled up gently as he let out each calm breath.

Not finding anything useful, Edna tried to open the wall somehow, but finally had no other option but put her hand on the pedestal, hoping that it would open the wall, and that behind it she would find some clothes before having to wake Josh. And some better lighting would be good too, because seeing your surroundings and knowing about yourself was more than half of winning... Even if she was not sure where they was, or if there was anything to win, she really hoped to find out more about it very soon.

Otherwise she could go back and lay down, letting Josh try next... She did checkout the fluid'stemperature and consistency, and was kind of intrigued how it helped them breath, or even keeping them asleep... Maybe she could just lay back and relax a little? But only if there was nothing else to do.
