First, thank you to everyone who donated. It is very much appreciated : )

Hokay, so I realized when setting this up that Google and Yahoo do not particularly like blind redirects. In order to facilitate us getting search engine rankingage, the top page instead does a meta refresh rather than a header refresh. That way it looks like we are more legitimate. I may set up the front page of Blue Moon to be another Drupal landing... we will see.
1: Blue Moon now has its own mail server binding. This should cut down on the amount of people getting e-mails in their junk folders, assuming this IP block is not blacklisted (if so that may take a week or so for me to resolve).
2: We now have a functioning https certificate. However, your browser may not recognize the root certificate, and you will need to install it first if that is the unfortunate case. It is not at all difficult, just go here and install it as a 'Trusted Root Certification Authority':
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.startssl.com/certs/ca.cer">http://www.startssl.com/certs/ca.cer</a><!-- m -->
If you need instructions, Startcom has a forum topic providing more details:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://forum.startcom.org/viewtopic.php?t=954">http://forum.startcom.org/viewtopic.php?t=954</a><!-- m -->
Then you can browse the forums without issue with ssl on -> <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://bluemoonroleplaying.com/forums/index.php">index.php</a><!-- l -->
3: I custom-crafted an iptables script to protect this server, which blocks some forms of attacks. One of the things it blocks is connection thrashing, which may cause lag. Please let me know if you are experiencing much of it.
4: Since we are on a server, this means we are out from under the thumb of VPShood and everything that entails. We do not share a physical machine with anyone that I'm not personally hosting. We are behind one less router. I can run ntp so if/when this server gets rebooted, the times will be synchronized to an atomic clock and not some random period in the future causing headaches. Ideally, this will mean less downtime, however, our RAID is not hot swappable so in the event of a serious crash it would potentially take a bit longer to recover.
5: Since we have our own top level domain name, it does well to make a link campaign to Blue Moon. In other forums and places where you use BBCode, please consider placing something like
in your signature. Choose between Role Playing, RP, Roleplaying, Role Play, or Roleplay as it suits you.
In other places you will want to use standard html:
Get the word out, yo.
6: There will probably be a few hiccups over the next week as I get things sorted out. For the most part, though, the server is two and a half times as fast as our previous VPS. We're running a special LAMP configuration that I tuned myself over the past two weeks... As that sort of thing goes, there is a not insignificant possibility that something may have been set wrong. E-mail me at <!-- e --><a href="mailto:vekseid@gmail.com">vekseid@gmail.com</a><!-- e --> if you have issues, or, my IMs are in my profile here.
7: Enjoy the speed : )
