Anyone here computer smart?

So, I recently got a printer, and I went through the whole set up thing, following the instructions word for word, and I only encountered one problem. It tells you to connect the printer to the computer via a USB cord. Problem is, it never detects that I have it connected. This problem isn't even addressed in the manual, and I think it's computer-sided.

I know it's not something to do with the printer specifically because I have the same problem with my MP3 player (A generic 5gig RCA). My MP3 player has no problem being detected on other computers. It's only on mine.

But at the same time, I can connect a flash drive, and my computer detects it just fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

They're all faulty? If they're faulty, how come my flash drive works?
Because they all go to the same bus. And faulty doesn't mean 'nonfunctional', it means 'faulty'.

Since I can't edit my own posts...

By any chance do you have a *gasp* Vista?

HP printers and other brands have problems connecting with computers running on Vista.
