YC has just started college and are looking for a room mate to help with the rent of her off-campus apartment. To her surprise the second person who calls to ask about the room is Molly Bloom, her old friend from school who moved across country with her parents after 6th grade. They kept in touch for a little while but like so many long distance relationships (of whatever kind they may be) it slowly fizzled out and it has been almost five years since she last heard anything from, or about her friend.
Excited at the opportunity to rekindle their friendship she invites her to come over and have a look at the apartment and discuss rent and such, a mere formality really, of course she will get the room. She has after all known Molly since kindergarten.
However, when she opens the door, prepared to give her old friend a massive hug she stops yourself in mid step. The person outside her door appears to be a young man rather than her friend Molly. Although there are certain similarities, the eyes for instance, and there is something about the curve of his upper lip. It takes her a while to actually realise that this actually is her old friend who in the years since last she heard from or about her has gone through a gender identity crisis of massive proportions and now define as Non-Binary.
While YC may be a bit shocked by this the room if of course still hers, his … theirs?
