Gor recommendations?

I've never read any of the Gor books. I'm familiar with the subject matter and have even dabbled in RPs based on the world, but I've never actually cracked open one of those novels. From what I understand, it's a pretty extensive collection. Anyone have a good recommendation for a starting point or standalone entry? I'm probably not going to want to read the whole canon.

Many thanks in advance!

I've only read three, but they blew my then thirteen year old mind! Don't know how they would hold up to reading now, though.

Tarnsman of Gor (the first and explains everything), Slave Girl of Gor, and Kajira of Gor were the ones I remember based on covers.

Have fun!

Boy, I don’t know. The early ones are much more fantasy adventure than they are focused on the slavery stuff, although there are still elements of that from the beginning, and sometimes they can get pretty dry at times - I remember in, I think, Raiders of Gor, there’s like few whole pages devoted to the size and measurements of ships.

Somehow, I like the world a lot but don’t have any desire to re-read or pick back up where I left off.

Out of curiosity, I read the first ... 2 and a half as ebooks I think. A horrible scan, but readable at least.
First and foremost: it's no porn. It reads like a self insert fanfic in a way. The actual writing quality is aged and I assume even back then it wasn't high literature, but not all stories have to be anyway.

The world-building is interesting for sure, the fast pacing of the story keeps you engaged and books are pretty short to begin with which makes it an less intimidating project than starting a whole 800+ pages novel of an author you don't know yet you like or not.

Even if you don't want to read anything, the first 1 or two books will be important for context. I think my personal problem was just my wrong expectations. Horny teen me expected something a lot more smutty ^^'
