A Dewford... how many decades had it been since he was last here? The old man stood with his bare feet on the sand, taking in the strong rays of the sun on his bare chest. He wore only his swim trunks and a smile hidden under the thick white beard. Samuel, Sam to most, had not traveled in a long time, but when he finally decided to go, the beach of Dewford was his first stop. Why wouldn't it be? He remembered the last time he was here, around forty years ago, he was a young man then with dreams of being a world class trainer. He met his first girlfriend in this place, right by the sea. It was a special moment... which lead to his first heartbreak... and then marriage soon after. Yes, it was a confusing and wonderful time. But he could no longer continue his dream.
After his wife died... he just went on with his life, but felt he was too old to continue his dream. He was old enough to be a grandfather to adults! How could he pick up his dusty old pokeballs and try to use them again? He only had his Gengar, his life-long companion pokemon. Caught the Gastly himself when he was a kid and the Ghost type stuck around him ever since. Since ghosts done age, this ended up being a perfect match for him.
Then it hit him... he would die, well eventually, and he didn't life a fulfilling life at all! No! He needed to live his life to his fullest! He needed to go out there, catch pokemon, train them, battle them, meet people and have new experiences. It was time he was selfish and think about himself. Yes... it was time he enjoyed life, because it could end at any moment.
