The Presenting Gala. That’s what the Demons had called it on the drive from the Neko’s neighborhoods into the lands run by demons. It was an event that would give all the Demons in high society a chance to see all the Neko’s that were available that year by having said nekos serve them. The Nekos would be part of the wait staff, helping to serve drinks and other things, until they were chosen for..other things.

Once they arrived at the venue holding the event they were split into two groups, male and female, and each group was led to a large bathroom where they were told to bathe and then dress in the uniform that was provided for them. Though when August looked at what had been set out for them he would hardly call it a uniform.

At first glance, when folded neatly on the chair, it almost passed as a normal waiter's uniform. However when one went to put it on it revealed itself to be anything but. The white, button up shirt was made with a deep v-neck line. Not closing until it reached the wearers navel, and the black vests were designed to also not cover up this area, leaving the chest completely exposed.

The black dress pants also turned out to not be pants at all, but shorts that cut off just below the wearer’s thighs, making sure to draw attention to the person's ass. Thigh-high black boots rounded the ensemble and the tiger neko could just die from embarrassment as he was expected to wear this while serving guests. His only consolation was that he was not the only one dressed this way, and the girls had it much worse.

When he was finally ready a demon placed a tray of drinks in his hands before shoving him through the door and onto the event floor.

Tonight is not the first Presenting Gala Kainen has attended. For the last ten years, the twenty eight year old runic demon has attended every Gala, one held on the last day of every month. He has never selected a neko. None caught his eye. Most were either in tears at being taken away from their families, or pining to be selected by demons that looked less likely to fuck them. They should take pride in being selected, not cry or grovel like animals. They may have the features of animals, but they should have better sense not to act it.

Standing at the side of the venue hall, Kainen adjusts the red silk scarf covering the lower half of his face. His head already has a dull throb; too many strong perfumes. Why do people wear such strong scents? Most of them have sensitive noses to begin with.

Kainen is unfortunate enough to be susceptible to headaches and dizziness, and strong smells only agitate them. He hadn't been a particularly healthy child, weak immune system and asthmatic lungs. He eventually became stronger, asthma attacks very few and far between often going months without. But the headaches and dizzy spells never left. It's part of the reason he never selected a neko. Refused to let others see his weakness. However, he was always looking, always considered taking one. Perhaps tonight would be the night, as his red eyes watch the doors leading to the dressing chambers.

The second August was out the door and onto the Gala floor he could feel every demons eyes shift to him. His mind flashing to the leering demon who would always be the one to pick up the nekos in his neighborhood. The demon would would always joke about how he would go quickly, being a wild cat neko was rare and demons did love rare things. Another neko, this one a few months older and not yet chosen by a demon, grabbed his arm and pulled him into the crowd.

"Move your ass! He hissed. "Don't just stand there, you'll get in trouble." The older Nemo then made sure that the tray in August's hands was sturdy before pushing him in the direction of some demons. "This is stupid! Why the hell do we have to do this?!" He whispered yelled back to the other neko. "Don't argue! Just do it!" Was the only response he hot back.

The commotion may not have been heard, but it was seen. Kainen's eyes locked onto the tiger cat being pulled, then pushed around. A wildcat, how rare. He hadn't thought there were any wildcat breeders, adults left unselected to keep producing offspring, remaining in the slums. Kainen's interest is immediately piqued.

Kainen's eyes follow the boy as he moves about the floor. Several demons interact with the tiger neko, but eventually move on. Wildcats have a rumored reputation of being very difficult to tame and train. Whether this is true or not, varies from one neko to the next. However, almost an hour passes, and the boy still doesn't have a demon all over him.

This was the most humiliating day of August's life. The young wildcat could barely contain his shiver of disgust when a demon nonchalantly ran his right hand down the front of his bare chest, sharp nails dragging across his exposed nipples. The demon was conversing with another demon who had called him over for a drink. Neither had paid out right attention to him as he stood there holding his tray, but the way the demon touched him so casually definitely hinted that they were paying attention.

August began to back away, but was stopped when the demon that called him over spoke. "Where do you think your going tiger? I haven't dismissed you yet." The demon that had groped him let out a boisterous laugh. "What, thinking of claiming the little wildcat?" "No, but he'll be a source of entertainment for at least a while."

The demons callous words, claiming that August was just a tool to be played with, caused the tigers ears to flatten against his head as he bared his fangs at the demons. Before he could help himself he grabbed one of the glasses he was meant to be serving and threw the contents on the two demons.

The floor went silent as all eyes turned to event taking place.

Having been watching the tiger cat since he stepped on the floor, Kainen saw the entire disaster. It seems the rumors of difficulty fall true for this neko. The soaked demon's cry of surprise calls the attention of the entire hall, which promptly falls silent. Kainen tightens his grip on his crystal tumbler until it cracks, but doesn't break. A heartbeat later, he has set the tumbler on a passing neko's tray and is weaving across the room. That demon is going to kill the boy for his mistake, Kainen can see it in the tension in his shoulders and the rage on his face.

Kainen makes it to the trio just as the demon is summoning crackling blue lightning to his palm. The black haired man grabs the demon's wrist, expression blank despite the electricity shooting up his arm. Demons can take a lot more damage than a neko. "Be calm. They don't train them for us." Kainen's voice is deep, smooth like honey, and easy on the ears. At first, the lightning demon is even more angered, head whipping around to see who grabbed him. Then his face pales when he sees Kainen, and quickly disperses his electricity.

Kainen releases the demon, turning to the wildcat. He takes the tray, only needing to hold it out for a handful of seconds before another neko runs up to take it. Then Kainen wraps one arm around the tiger neko's waist, pulls him flush up against his own body, and pulls down his red scarf with his free hand. That hand rises to tangle in the wildcat's hair, pulling his head back to expose his throat. Kainen ducks his head, sinking fangs into the side of the neko's throat. A very public claim. A moment later, he lifts his head, licking blood from his lips.

August realized he fucked up the second the two demons eyes narrowed onto him. The one that groped him looked pissed, but it was the other demon that terrified August. The wildcat tried to back away from the angry demon, but a group of demons had gathered around him, blocking him in. Nekos who had been serving in that are quickly scattered, hiding behind the demons that had claimed them or running into the changing room. August couldn't blame them, he would probably do the same thing had the demon ire not been directed at him.

Fully expecting the demon to strike him where he stood, the tiger closed his eyes as he saw the blue lightning start to gather in the demons hand. Bracing himself for a blow that would never come as he was saved by another demon. One that clearly out ranked the two he insulted. Though his relief was short lived as he felt the new arrival grab him by the waist, a refusal on the tip of his tongue when a hand tightened in his white hair and sharp teeth bit into the supple flesh of his neck. He tried to struggle against the demon, however the bite was over quickly, leaving August panting against his side.

The audience that had gathered looked at Kainen in confusion as he claimed the tiger. "Are you sure you want that one Kainen?" The demon, Rowan, asked.

Kainen narrows his eyes at Rowan, but it's the only change to his expression. His right arm tightens around the tiger neko, supporting him and keeping him close. "Are you questioning my claim, Rowan? No other demon has staked a claim, I have every right to do so." Most demons show their initial claim simply by holding onto their selected neko. A claiming bite in public is unorthodox. Most claiming bites are made in private, mostly because of the state the neko is left in.

With no reply after a full minute, Kainen moves off through the crowd, back to the side of the hall where there's less people. He keeps the boy tucked tight against his side, left hand lifting to pull his scarf back up over his mouth and nose. His head is throbbing, and he's dizzy. Kainen leans his back against the wall, left hand remaining over the scarf as if he can steady himself. His red eyes are staring at the floor, trying to stop the room from spinning. Bad time to have a dizzy episode.

August felt like he was drunk. His mind was clouded, and he was unable to think clearly. Trying to come up with a rational thought was like trying to wade through a ground made of mud. His limbs felt like they were made of lead while simultaneously not being able to hold his weight. Had Kainan not been holding him August would have fallen to the floor once the bite had ended.

He was barely able to follow the conversation the demons were having, or well Kainens response to Rowan, and before he knew what was happening he was literally being dragged to another end of the venue floor. His face was pressed deep against the demons shoulder and he was all but forced to breathe in the scent of him. Pine and ginger. An odd combination, but seemed to suit the demon perfectly for some reason. Not truly comprehending his actions August took in a deep gulp of the scent. "Mmm..smells good." The words were slurred and barely legible due the the after effects of the claiming bite.

Gradually, the dizziness settles, and Kainen lowers his hand. He's aware of the neko breathing deeply, but he's caught off guard by his words. Mostly because he didn't think the boy would be able to form coherent speech so soon. The claiming bite, or any demon bite for that matter, is like a drug to a neko, making them experience a powerful high. Some demons use it like a drug to keep their nekos docile and compliant. Fortunately, it doesn't form an addiction.

Kainen sighs quietly, left fingers rubbing at his left temple. He should take the boy home. No doubt news that the owner of the leading tech company, RenTech, has finally selected a neko would spread like wildfire. Pushing away from the wall, Kainen pulls the tiger neko with him as he makes his way to the coat check. Collecting his leather jacket, he draped it over the boy's shoulders even though it's huge on him, then pulls the neko close again. Outside, he touches the watch on his wrist, bringing up a holo screen. A young blond male with short black horns protruding from his forehead appears on screen. "Liam, bring the car around. I'm going home." The blond nods, and Kainen closes the holo screen.

As the duo made their way outside August couldn't help but shiver from the cold. His entire body felt heated and the wind from the evening air was causing goosebumps to form along his arms, at least until Kainen wrapped his jacket around his shoulds.

The fabric drowns August, but its warm and the scent of pine and ginger is comforting so the tiger pulls the article closer around his frame, breathingbdeeply into the leather. He barely is able to register anything going on around him, and doesn't notice at all when they move from the cirb to the inside of a luxury car.

Liam pulls the car away from the cub as soon as Kainen and the neko are settled inside. Kainen is rubbing his temple again, one arm still around the neko. His eyes are closed against the throbbing in his head. The sooner they get home, the sooner he can take some painkillers. Despite being a rune mage, his own magics don't work on himself.

The car is silent, save for the soft hum of the engine. Kainen opens his eyes, turning them on the wildcat wrapped in his jacket. Once again, he hadn't really been planning on selecting a neko, but this one was going to be killed for his insolence, and Kainen had loved without thinking. He can still taste the neko's blood on his tongue. "Hey, kid. What's your name?"

Name? What was his name? August's eyes blinked in confusion as he tried to comprehend what was being asked for. The fog around his mind was clearing from his system, but slowly. Purple eyes closed and a look of concentration appeared on the neko's face as he tried to recall the information the demon was asking for. "Au-August?" He said it in teh form of a question, again he was almost drunk, but something about that sounded right. Without even thinking August snuggled deeper into the demons side.

Kainen sighs as August burrows against him. Well, at least the bite makes him docile. The demon has a feeling he'd be spitting fury if he wasn't high off his ass right now. He closes his eyes again, leaning his head back against the seat. The next fifteen minutes passes in silence.

"Sir, we're home." Liam speaks softly; he had seen Kainen rubbing his temple when they'd gotten in. Kainen lifts his head with another sigh, something he does frequently with his headaches. Once the car comes to a halt, he lightly pushes August out of the backseat, following, then leads him up to the house. It's a relatively modest two floor home, though it would technically be considered a three bedroom, two bathroom.

August had fallen asleep during the car ride home, his head resting against his new masters chest, only to be jostled awake by them arriving at their location. Stretching, August raised his arms above his head. Letting out a yawn revealed Augusts sharp fangs, another feature from his wildcat designation.

Eyes blinking with sleep he let himself be manhandled to his new homez the sight of which caught him a little off guard. "I thought it would be bigger." The words are out of his mouth before he could stop them, not that he probably would have. While the house was nice it wasn't horribly bigger then his own back in his community, though it was quite a bit nicer. "Aren't demons supposed to have like mansions or castles or something?"

Kainen sighs quietly as he pulls Augist in the front door. "Not all demons are needlessly extravagant." The front entry is wide open to the living room, and despite his words, Kainen's home is expensively furnished. Large fabric couch, equally large lounge chair, a coffee table with a resin poured beach beneath the glass top. The TV stand is a huge tree stump carved down to look like a forest scene across the front. Large paintings of various exotic landscapes decorate the walls, and there's a window seat looking out over the front lawn. Across the room is a staircase to the second floor, and beside it, a door to the backyard.

Through an archway to the right is the kitchen, state of the art, but with only a small table and two chairs tucked against the wall. The island counter also has only two barstools against it. These two rooms make up the entirety of the ground floor.

"Needlessly extravagant eh?" Even through his sleep, drugged bite fueled mind August could tell that the house that Kainen lived in was on the more expensive side. No Neko could ever hope to afford anything found in this house. His family could barely afford a television set. Then again, when your only purpose was to reproduce to supply more slaves it wasn't surprising that the demons hadn't expanded their technological advances with the nekos.

Kainen growls lightly, pulling August with him up the stairs. The hall has four doors, one open to an office/den with another bay window seat and walls lined with bookshelves, a desk at the center. The door next to it is slightly open to a medium sized bedroom, clearly lived in, with a small attached bathroom. The third door is closed, and the fourth is open to a bigger bedroom with an attached ensuite bathroom.

It's the bigger bedroom Kainen pulls August into, shutting the door behind them. He half tosses the boy onto large bed, still wrapped in the leather jacket, then starts undressing. However, his red eyes aren't even on his chosen neko. They're half closed, staring at the floor. He hangs the red scarf on a hook rack on the back of the bedroom door, where four others of different colors are hung. The rest of his clothing goes to the simple wicker hamper in the corner beside a standing wardrobe. Now naked, his lean body is relatively scar free, save for a small circular scar at the base of his throat, between his collarbones, and a six inch by three inch area of pink scarred skin on his left side, below his ribs and above his hip, that looks like it may have been a serious wound in the past.

August yelps as he is tossed onto the demons bed, the other man having lifted the neko without any trouble. Violet eyes stated up at the demon in anxiety as he saw Kainen begin to strip, and soon was fully naked before the young kitsune. August couldn't look away as the demons body was laid out before him, in particular a wound on his left caught his attention.

August shivered in empathic pain as the thought of what had caused the wound could have only been super painful. Without even thinking about it August ended up voicing his thoughts.

"Damn, that looks like it hurt." After realizing he spoke the striped youth slapped his hands over his mouth.

Kainen glances toward August upon hearing his voice. His right fingertips touch the pink skin of the scar; no doubt that's what drew the neko's attention. Indeed, it had been painful, had even nearly killed him. The demon drops his hand. "It did."

Kainen turns away from August, heading into the bathroom. A pill bottle can be heard rattling as Kainen takes painkillers, then the shower starts. The door has been left open, and although Kainen hasn't chained the tiger neko, his expression just before he'd gone in had made it very clear that August should not leave the bedroom.

August continued to stare at the pinked flesh on the demon’s chest. He couldn’t help but wonder what could have caused such a wound, especially on a demon of a status like his new master. August mentally choked on the word even as he thought it in his own head, and decided there that he would not be owned by anyone.

As Kainen entered his bathroom, August began to look around the room. While he refused to let this new man own him, he wasn’t stupid or suicideal. The look the demon had given him before leaving the room was a threat, and the tiger neko didn’t wasn’t about to test the man's burdens yet. No he would save that for when the demon let his guard down.

A soft thump sounds after a few minutes, followed by the clatter of plastic bottles hitting the ground, and another thump. Struck by a round of dizziness, Kainen had made to grasp the grab bar and had missed, hitting the shelf of bottles and knocking them to the floor, before following them.

Now, Kainen is seated on the floor of the shower, knees pulled to his chest and head ducked down. His hands are clasped behind his head, elbows forward on his knees. His breathing is deep bit shaky as he tries to steady his vision. Kainen's black hair hangs wet around his face, the shower still raining down on him.

The sound of something hitting the bathroom floor caused Agust to jump. A wave of curiosity hit the young neko as the sound of plastic hitting the bathroom floor, followed by a louder sound of something larger and heavier falling to the ground. The neko was indecisive in what he should do, a part of him was determined to remain where the demon had left him, but his wanting to know what happened warred within him to get a closer look.

in the end his natural curiosity won and August quietly got off the bed, treading quietly to the bathroom door where he stopped again. Should he just go in or should he knock? Cautiously he brings his hand up to knock on the door. "Um...are you okay?"

Kainen has his eyes closed now, the spinning having stopped. But he fears getting up and being hit by another wave of dizziness. Of course the day he finally brings a neko home is one of his bad days. Not too often, though they do occur. The knock on the door gets his attention.

At first, there's no answer. Kainen doesn't want to show weakness. For a demon of his position, weakness is dangerous. Even amidst the demons, there's an unspoken war for higher ranks. "Yes." There's a short pause, then, "No.. Come in." An almost defeated sounding sigh follows. Hopefully this neko won't think he can get away with anything just because Kainen gets dizzy and headaches. He must look a fool, sitting curled up on the shower floor, soaking wet and holding his head down.
