With every mile that passed beneath the carriage's wheels, Lia's heart rate increased a little more. It was fear, mostly; who wouldn't be afraid after hearing about the cursed man who awaited her at the end of the long road? Everyone in the Kingdom of Azulun knew about Roland Alard and the horrors he could unleash on his enemies, which was why King Augustin was so willing to hand over his daughter as...a hostage? A marriage prospect? A sacrifice?
Well, whatever she was supposed to be, Lia doubted Roland would be happy to see her when she finally did arrive at his stronghold. He most likely only agreed to the deal because he expected his prize would be Augustin's elder daughter, Elisia, the golden-haired beauty of the family. Lia (formally named Thalia) was still pretty in her own right, with her wavy coppery tresses and eyes like sea glass, and despite being five years younger than Elisia she might have even argued her figure was better, with her generous curves and small, tight waist. Dressed in a formal gown or even in a simple shift the redhead could be quite fetching, but in one last mean trick Lia's sister had seen to it upon departure that she looked more like a whore than the princess that she was.
At least the servants had been kind enough to give her a warm black fur cloak to wear against the chill of the mountain passes, but beneath that Lia was dressed like one of the dancing tavern girls Azulun was famous for. Her full breasts were barely contained in a bronze-colored, midriff-revealing halter adorned with gold coins (additional payment to Roland, no doubt), and while the matching skirt seemed to be a bit more modest with it's floor-grazing length, the slits up the side were wide enough to reveal her creamy white thighs, and rode all the way up to her flared hip. More coins jingled on the hem and in a heavy necklace resting on her chest, and the only shoes she'd been given were soft golden silk slippers.
Despite the ridiculous outfit, the grim-faced servants that had come to collect her didn't say a word about it, but merely ushered her into the carriage for the long journey to Terre. No one bothered to see her off, and Lia couldn't say she was surprised. It was Elisia's birthday after all, and the entire kingdom was too busy celebrating the Crown Princess to bother missing the other one. That was why her pounding heart wasn't entirely fearful as the carriage crossed the border between Azulun and Terre. Whatever her life was going to be like under Roland, it couldn't be worse than her life at home.
Still, when the carriage finally rolled to a stop in front of the foreboding castle, Lia found it difficult to rise to her feet at first. Swallowing hard, she heard the servant announce “Princess Thalia DeuxLeRoi of Azulun” and shakily emerged from the vehicle, eyes widening as she looked upon her new lord for the first time.
