Some of my favorites tend to be of the demon variety, or witchy types. I like them especially when used in a setting where there's a 'hidden world/society'. Creatures of power that need to stay in control of their powers and their urges. Or when a powerful creature like that is kept under control by what they might consider a lesser being. Or just a bunch of demons and witches who form gang wars and co-exist with mortals just for the heck of it.

What kinds of races do you guys like to roleplay with? And why do you like them?

Well that answer depends for me. On whether I'm the one playing as the race or I'm playing against them.

Playing as: I'm pretty flexible here. I default to humans unless asked, unless my partner's race gives a good opportunity for something else or the rp would benefit from something that doesn't think like a human. Or I just find a really nice image. Every race has their own fun advantages and disadvantages as roleplaying opportunities. If I'm playing a gruff gangster type I'll play something scaly or bulky. If I'm playing something refined and sophisticated I'll play something more on the human scale. If I'm playing something harsh and judgmental gotta go with Angels.

Playing against: Oh Kemonomimi all the way here, my absolute favorite. I love catgirls, doggirls, foxgirls, bunnygirls, etc. There's something about adding subtle little animal personality quirks, with the ears and tail that is both cute and sexy. And I am admittedly a bit of a sucker for cute things, either cause of corruption kink or just because I'm feeling wholesome at the moment.

lol, Angels can be fun to play with. I remember once playing a germophobe angel who saw humans as filthy beings and practically murdering any of them that tried to touch her.

Kemonomimis can be fun too as long as they don't start to lick people's faces as a greeting. I don't mind their animal quirks as long as its balanced with their 'human' quirks.

For playing, definitely elves and dark elves, for DMing, dwarves and Orcs. I do like the the races in 40k

Oh goodness yes, that's where you gotta draw the line with the licking. Now in an erotic scene a little licking can work regardless of race. But as a greeting we enter Furry UwU Territory, keep that stuff for the Furries.

And because 40K was brought up, I'm a total Thousand Sons sympathizer, "FUCKING FURRIES" sentiments abound for me.

I'm actually not a fan of elves, dwarves, and orcs. Or at least how they typically get portrayed. I love when you subvert expectations with those races. Intellectual or artistically talented dwarves are great. Primitive or unadvanced Elves are great. Orcish Gentlemen are fantastic. Good aligned Drow as a culture. I love stuff that just makes your average player stop and have to reevaluate how they deal with a race.
But I am coming from an angle of being a Dungeon Master for a couple of decades, I am so totally tired of the defaults.

Definitely don't get enough horned women in my stories, like zabraks, demoness, or draenei sorts. Oh just regular ole human women with horns in some fantasy setting.

I like nothing more than to play against goblins and orcs! Small curvy goblins and big Amazonian orc women. But halflings, dwarves, and the other small fantasy folk are a joy as well. (Though if I'm being honest, you can sell me on most of the monstrous sorts one way or the other.)

To play AS... well, that gets more complicated. When I play humans they're invariably not entirely human. The two races that I've had the most fun playing are Drow and Half-Orcs. They have built-in societal "damage" that I like to work with.

Playing, I like werewolves, vampires, demons, anything physically overpowering is my thing when playing something supernatural, but mentally capable of holding a good conversation. Playing against, vampires and succubi come to mind. Against a male roleplayer, the same things I like to play since I like to be overpowered in my M/M RPs. Simple things, really.

Doesn't it also depend on your definition of said race?

Compare Tolkiens Orcs vs World of Warcraft Orcs. Throw in Elves for that comparison too! You can google images of Orcs and get quite a wide variety, from extremely humanoid looking (IE human but with green skin) to something that looks more like a Predator from the Alien universe!

I've recently read another book series where the Elves are treated as Gods by Humans (and have conspired to keep the Humans subjugated). But these Elves are mostly hairless, shaving their heads if they belong to certain circles of power/classes within Elven society. Some are found to be extremely attractive, of course, but at the same time the Elves are very racist, seeing Humans as nothing more then cattle, keeping them in a stone/bronze age level of technological development.

That's true, the way races are handled can influence why you like them.

For example with Elves I used to have a dislike for them because in most stories I've seen them in; they were always portrayed as this perfection race that's very nature-loving and powerful. But in the Elder Scrolls franchise I like how elves behaved more human-like. they can succumb to things like greed and try to take over the world with violence (altmer), their version of nature loving elves are the bosmer; who revere trees so much that they don't even eat vegetables or fruit. instead they have a strictly meat-based diet and cloth themselves in furs and leathers.

So it was nice to see elves in a different light than those mystical beings.

Same thing for Orcs; the majority are often portrayed as dumb brutes who only seek war but there are orcs that are intelligent and honorable. And the reason why they war so much is because they live in a wasteland where food and supplies are scarce so in order to survive they raid other villages or even races. So that gives me a different view of them.

With my nickname here it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that my favourite races are the following four. They are also the Founding Races.

K'Chain Che'Malle, Forkrul Assail, Jaghut & Imass.

I love playing opposite orcs and ogres. As well as more reptilian and canine like races of bipeds

Monster Girls in general mostly. I do love any short stack fantasy race as well. And Orc women are divine.

Also I guess i'm kind of a furry so I dig some anthro dudes and gals from time to time.

Yes, monster girls are very much one of my favorites, but I have a soft spot for Tieflings, and honestly a lot of canine anthros, they're super cute.

I like to explore with anthro and monster types as well ^^
it makes me wonder what their culture would look like and their day to day lives.

It's funny though cause I didn't always used to like them. I often associated them with porn and those weren't stories I was interested in. It wasn't until I saw the animation Zootopia that I came to appreciate the anthro and monster types :)

My favorites to play against are: werewolves/shifters and vampires. I would also love to play against a male fae, but haven't as of yet.

My favorites to play are: vampires, succubi and things like neko and bunny girls ^-^

For me to write as, I like houri, avariel elves, dragonshifters, fay and erinyes off the top of my head.

Against...hmm...can't say I have a favorite, so long as they're humanoid and sentient, they're game. Maybe as of now, demons.

I'm mostly for humans... But something very close, I will write, if it isn't stereotypical (the wise elf, the slutty twilek)
