Likely a stupid question(s?)

Not on this site, but on another I was ghosted just when we were getting to the really good part of an RP. I would really like to continue that RP, but as the last partner is M.I.A., I cannot do that.

Is it selfish to try to find someone to continue with me from where they left off? Is it a fool's errand to begin with? Should I just give up on it in general? Should I even be asking this here?
