Gwen had been working at the research lab for a year now and she had finally managed to get herself assigned to some of the more top-secret projects, studying newly discovered forms of life and discovering how to manipulate them. In particular she was working on a project that was experimenting with combining DNA from various creatures in attempts to create new life-forms, potentially ones with applications ranging from anything such as a weapon to a new food source that could be easily mass-produced. Gwen was just heading for one of the more complete creatures, stopping outside the observation area to look inside through the one-way window. The creature was, at the moment, more or less a shapeless mass, though the movement signified it was very much alive.
This was a most interesting creature, created from hundreds of seperate DNA strands, all of which were then artificially manipulated in some way to 'imrpove' upon the original. The result was a creature that in its natural state had no real form to speak of, but it was capable of learning and mimicing. With enough time they suspected the creature would even be able to take on the form of a human being. Such a creature would be an excellent spy, but right now it had little intelligence. Perhaps they'd have to destroy this one and create another one with more intelligence. Still, right now there was other work to be done. It was feeding time for the creature, and so Gwen turned to head down to one of the more isolated observation areas, this time a small room with two-way glass, allowing her to watch the creature, and the creature to see her. Absent mindedly Gwen wondered what the creature was thinking about....was it really as stupid as they thought? Or perhaps it was so intelligent it could make them think what they wanted....perhaps they'd never know. Slowly Gwen placed her hand on the glass, just smiling slightly at the creature. She had helped create this life, and in a way she was so very proud.
