Senka Deshinov looked somewhat disconnected with the world as she walked around the camp. The snow fell down slowly from the heavens, occasionally landing on her but she didn't mind, she liked the snow, expect when it was stained with the blood of fallen comrades and enemies. She looked about herself; everyone else was probably in their quarters or in the mess hall. She sighed to herself her hot breath creating a mist in the coldness of the outside air. She walked over to one of the snow covered benches. Clearing away some of the gather snow she made a place for herself to sit.

She sat down gently on the bench and leaned back in the chair and looked up at the sky. She wasn't the only women at this camp, but offcourse in the army the men would always outnumber the women. She wasn't a front line solider, no. That "privilege" was only given to the men and with good reason. She was a sniper in the Russian army. At first she had worked alone, having no partner with her on tasks and missions. She was probably one of the best snipers in the army, or at least this camp, with a confirmed 77 kills. The men had taken to calling her "Hawk Eye". However most of them stayed away from her as she was cold and disconnected, it seemed, of having any emotions. The men saw this as somewhat irrie. Pretty soon the high ranking officials got word of it and assigned her a partner for some sort of companion ship and perhaps a vent for any emotions that she had. So far it hadn't really helped. She'd manage to crack a smile or to, or chuckle once in awhile but not much else. Still, they considered that her psychological health was at a higher standard than it had ever been before and to this day she still had a partner.

Why had she joined the fight in the first place? Women tended not to be known for their service on the battle field. The Russian army was one of the first to allow women to join their ranks. When the war fist began, the Nazi's had invaded her town. The burnt the whole town to the ground and slaughtered all the men of their village right before their eyes. Even the smallest of male children were spared. Any women that objected was captured and most likely raped. Those that kept their mouths shut, lived and escaped. She was one of those. She had managed to escape with a few other women, however once they had escaped, they had nowhere to go. So instead of standing around waiting for the Germans to capture the again, they ran to the nearest army base. They were given food and shelter and offered the chance to join the fight. They were probably the easiest people to enlist. The hurt they felt in their hearts would have them lust for vengeance. The out of the 7 that had escaped, 4 of them joined, including her. The rest were sent back to safe areas of the country to begin new lives.

The 4 of them grew very close. They were all trained in how to use a sniper rifle, and a hand gun. They learnt tactics, how to move around silently and other skills that would assist them. Then they were shipped of with other female soldiers to the camp they were in now. During this time, the four of them had grown quite close. Their reasons for joining were one in the same after all. Senka had lost her father, brother and Fiancé in the bloody massacre. She and her mother were the only ones left in their family. She and her mother had escaped with the 7 women. Her mother now resided in Moscow, working as a seamstress.

Senka sighed to herself. She was dressed in her military uniform, designed to combat the harsh Russian winter. Her red hair was up in a messy bun and stuff up inside her fury woollen cap. Her uniform was marked with a few decals, denoting her rank of lieutenant. Her uniform consisted of a large over coat, then a jacket, a shirt, a pair of thick trousers and black boots. Hardly faltering, however that was not its purpose. Its purpose was to keep her alive in the cold.

Looking around, she wondered exactly where her partner had actually run off to. He was probably inside stuffing his face as usual. She sighed a little and looked at the snow falling making her content once more. She reached inside her shirt and pulled out a ring on a chain. It was her engagement ring, only simple in design, but what it represented way the complete opposite. It was made of a sliver band with a large green stone in the middle and smaller white ones around it. He had told her he had chosen green because he loved her eyes. She held it in her gloved hands for a moment, her mind drifting back to those somewhat happy days before the war, in a somewhat blissful state for a moment. However, footsteps approaching made her quickly put it away from view once more and she was back in reality, in the cold snow.

Zivon stood about five foot eight inches tall and weighed one hundred fifty pounds which was mostly muscle. He had short black hair and was clean shaven. There was a small cut on his upper lip which he got this morning when shaving. Zivon enlisted in the military out of a sense of duty to his country. The role of a scout for a sniper was a natural fit for him. He knew the area well. In better time visited the area often.

As Zivon walked towards Senka coming from the supply tent he couldn’t help but wonder how she would react to his news or what he had with him. Prior to going to the supply tent he was ordered to report to the base commander. The base commander had given Zivon a requisition form signed by him to give to directly to the supply clerk and another sealed letter to give to the clerk as well.

The base commander made it a point to state this was not going to be a typical assignment and typical military rules and regulations would not necessarily need to be adhered to. In other words his superiors where going to turn a blind eye to a lot if he completed his assignment. The only real problem with this was he was never given an official assignment other then to scout for Senka.

Senka was still something of a mystery to him. He could tell by the distance she kept at times that there was something traumatic that had happened to her. He figured out it had lead Senka to her role as a sniper but wasn’t quite sure what the exact event or events where. When Zivon was given the assignment he was told very little about Senka other then he was to keep a close eye on her and she had the nickname of “Hawk Eye”. Zivon was assured he would figure out for him self why she was called “Hawk Eye” after spending time with Senka. After the long walk from the supply tent Zivon was finally face to face with Senka.

Senka sighed to her self a little and looked up when her partner came over towards her and looked at her. She stood up and looked at him when he said nothing to her at first. She looked at him and said "Is there something wrong?" she asked him wondering why he hadn't told her what the hell he wanted from her yet.

She looked at the piece of paper he had in his hand and said "Did we get a new mission then?" she asked him. Why he hadn't just upped and told her what was going on. Usually he was the one doing the talking, trying to make a conversation. Most of the time she would say something and then after their would be an awkward silence. This was something unusual for him.

Senka looked at him and said "Bloody hell, just spit it out, stop keeping me in the dark!" she exclaimed getting somewhat iritated by all this.

Zivon looked at Senka for a moment before speaking. “We do have a new mission.” he said. “A high ranking Nazi General is our primary target. Our reports indicate that he’s going to meeting his one of mistresses in three days. We’re to leave with in the hour. The location is about two days travel from here.” Zivon paused for a moment before continuing. “Our orders are to arrive before he does. He should be traveling with few if any guards. “

Zivon unzipped the new riffle he had been carrying over his shoulder and showed it to Senka, then handed it to her. Zivon continued, “We have also been given a new riffle as well as other miscellaneous scouting equipment which should help. We’re also to observe the General… with his mistress before killing him.” Zivon thought about his orders for a moment. Why was he being ordered to watch the General with his mistress? The opportunity kill such a high ranking Nazi was rare and understood the value of it. The part Zivon didn’t get was the value in being ordered to obverse the General with his mistress. Zivon knew what he and Senka where likely to observe between the General and his mistress. Zivon said, “There’s more. We’re to document anything of note the General and his mistress do.”

Zivon tried to gage the reaction Senka had to the odd orders. Zivon wondered if Senka was still irritated with him. Zivon asked, “Any questions about the orders so far?”

Senka looked at him as he spoke. She took the new riffle from him and looked down it's scope and examined it for a moment before looking at him. She was a little surprised by the orders. Why the bloody hell did they have to observe the general, Would it not be more efficient for them to just kill him when she had the shot?

She looked up at him and said "Any reason as to why we must observe the general and his mistress?" she asked him. She sighed a little to herself and said "In any case, lets just go and get it over and done with...I'll meet you at the transport" she said walking back to her tent.

Inside her tent, she shut the door behind her and began to disrobe to change into her combat uniform. It wasn't very different to the one she wore, sides the camouflage texture and the lack of trench coat with it. It was made of much thicker material to keep the cold out. She got ready and the walked over to her desk where she placed on her belt two hand grenades for when things got really sour and a hand gun with a extra magazine of ammo. She then righted her self in the mirror, not that it would matter anyway, but it was kind of ritual. She pulled out the chain from underneath her shirt and looked at it again before she put it away and walked out of her tent. All she had to do now was got to the armory to pick up the ammunition for the new riffle.

Judging by Senka’s reaction, Zivon knew he wasn’t alone in wondering why he was being ordered to observe the General and his mistress. Zivon agreed with Senka’s question and wished he knew why he was being ordered to obverse them. Zivon started towards his tent and stopped for a few moments to let a several supply trucks pass in front of him. There was a lot of activity going on around the base but he didn’t have time to pay much attention to it, let alone stop and ask questions about any of it. After the supply trucks passed Zivon started towards his tent again. When he arrived at his tent he saw the light on. Zivon opened the door and saw one of his bunkmates Viktor packing up his equipment and putting it into a duffel bag.

Zivon said to Viktor, “Viktor, where you heading off to.”

Viktor replied, “New orders my friend.” Viktor continued to pack as he spoke. Viktor said “I received transfer orders this morning.”

Zivon replied back, “I received new orders this morning well. Senka and I will be heading out shortly for another mission.”

Viktor responded, “Senka? Sometimes I wonder which is colder the weather or her. I can count on one hand the times I have seen any emotion from her or seen her laugh. There’s just something eerie about her.”

Zivon let out a sigh and started gathering his equipment. Zivon said, “People just need to get to know her that’s all. She is by far the best sniper I have been assigned to work with. After all, being a sniper does take a certain amount of detachment from emotions at times.”

Viktor said to Zivon, “Well I am finished packing and need to head out now. It’s been on honor to serve with you. Take care my friend.”

Zivon replied back to Viktor, “Thanks. With any luck we’ll both make it out of this war alive.”

Viktor smiled then nodded at Zivon as opened the door and walked through it. Zivon had most of equipment packed. Zivon quickly changed into gear more suited for his next mission. He then grabbed his TT-30 semi-automatic pistol and cleaned it. Zivon wasn’t sure if he would need to use it on this mission but wanted to make sure it was ready just incase. Zivon double checked to make sure he didn’t forget anything. The only thing he needed now was an extra clip or two for his pistol at the armory. Zivon picked up his bag and slug it over his shoulder. Zivon thought to him self this mission should prove to be interesting to say the least. Zivon walked to the door, opened it, and started walking towards the armory.

Senka sighed to her self and walked out of her quarter ad began to slowly make her way towards the armory. On the way she and him crossed paths and they basically walked together towards the armory. She walked inside and and picked up the ammunition and walked out heading towards the transport.

She walked up and lent back on the back of the truck waiting for him to show. She looked at the sky, It had stopped snowing at least. Many god would be kind to them this night. She sighed and continued to wait. She looked at their driver and he seemed somewhat annoyed about the early start of this mission. He groaned a little as he took a drag of his cigarette before tossing it on the ground and stomping it out which was rather unnecessary really becouse the snow would have put it out anyway.

She looked up when she saw foot steps approaching, he had caught up with her now.

On most missions Zivon knew what to expect. This one was different then any before it for two reasons. One was their target. Never before had he been assigned to help kill such a high ranking Nazi. The second was the odd order to observe the General and his mistress. The walk from his quarters to the armory to get a few extra clips for his gun had been uneventful.

As Zivon walked back from the armory he kept thinking of situations that might arise during this mission and how he and Senka might best deal with them. Zivon knew he couldn't think of everything but it was a good as any use for the time it took to walk to the transport. A cold wind gust blew against him caused him to loose his train of thought. Zivon thought, at least it the weather will have to be better then this after we get to our missions location because it couldn't be much colder then this. Zivon continued walking towards the transport and soon arrived. He saw the driver leaning against the transport. Zivon could tell by his body langue the driver was less then happy to be there.

Zivon turned and faced the driver and said, “Everything set?”

The driver responded, “We can go as soon as the both of you are ready.”

“I am ready. How about you Senka?” Zivon said.

Senka looked at him and said "I'm fine, I'm ready to go" she said and climbed into the back of the truck. She set down on the bench on the side and and leaned back.

"Come on, lets get this over with" she said sighing.

One he was in the driver turned on the engine and truck began to rumble past the camp gates and down the road.
