Jack and Maisie was a classic example of childhood buddies. They both knew each other for more than 10 years. Jack met Maisie when Maisie's parents moved to Jack's neighborhood when he was 11 and she was 9 at the time. On that very day, Jack assumed the role of a big brother to Maisie. Though a friendly brother who took her shopping, who confronted her bullies, popped a beer with her on the weekends and basically an overprotective asshole who stuck with her for no reason.
Jack and Maisie attended the same university after high school. He was two years senior to her and Jack was already an established soccer team captain, had high grades and quite popular in the school. They were off to a rocky start that year because Jack wasn't very pleased with Maisie picking the same university as Jack. So, There was tension between them and Jack behaved like an angry child around her. He often did that to her as he was very protective. It was one of the ways he had learned to change her mind. Jack used to be charming and very social during high school but after his father passed away two years, it drastically changed Jack to a responsible person but he still found time for Maisie aside from his part-time job.
Marcus was an asshole ~ to simply put. Two years junior to Jack and he joined the university along with Maisie. He was the baseball captain of the junior team and he had a gang of boys around him. He was considered a frat boy among the professors and he lived up to his name. He usually picked beautiful girls on the campus to date and dumped them when the next beautiful one showed up. Maisie was his new target and all of Maisie's friends would actively encourage her to date Marcus. He was a guy every girl should avoid but failed to do so.

It had been six months since Maisie joined the university. Things had settled and she was familiar with Jack's friends and so was he with her friends. Though Jack was angry at Maisie, at first, it had faded but their friendship was still sketchy. Jack decided to soothe things between them as it was Friday evening, their usual time to hang out together.
"You were supposed to be here at 05, Maisie Landwood " Jack glanced as he leaned against her locker and glared at her showing mixed emotions of joy for the weekend and frustration as he had been waiting for an hour. Jack was fresh out of soccer training, dressed in his athletic wear, sweaty and waiting for her to arrive so he could grab his casual that was inside her locker.
"Quick, you dickhead. We don't have time ~ I have a surprise for you. " Jack urged her. Jack was supposed to introduce her to a special person. He had promised to show her his new crush a girl from the neighborhood university.
While Jack was urging Maisie, Marcus with his charm cooed from behind. He was not at all charming and kind unless he needed his way with girls.
"Ah. Here, you are. You missed this from the class. " Marcus rested two sets of books on Maisie's shoulder from behind and casually tried to ruin their evening plan as he was aware of it. He had been hitting on Maisie for a month with no luck.
"Have you got any plans for the weekend, Maisie? I have got a free ticket for a soccer match and we need one more. " Riley, Marcus's sidekick, with his guidance, was deployed to convince Maisie to go on a date with Marcus.
Jack stood there and watched the drama in silence as he would be happy if she got a date.
