â??Baby Iâ??m sorry Iâ??m late, work was hellâ?¦â? Having just returning home from work Maria had tossed her keys into the bowl at the table beside the front door and made her way upstairs, happy to be home and eager to greet her husband. It was their anniversary, three years of marriage and sheâ??d had something special planned for the rest of day. Unfortunately sheâ??d been late getting out of the office and traffic had been a killer. She was running late, though in reality sheâ??d actually gotten off work more than two hours early. Having barely made any noise coming in Maria made it up to the room she shared with Robert within only a few seconds of having entered the house.
Sheâ??d found it strange that the dogs werenâ??t at the door to greet her, but she remembered that Robert usually kept their two pets in the backyard when she wasnâ??t home; it had been his idea to get the beasts but for some reason he didnâ??t like them very much. Pushing those thoughts away Maria had just opened their bedroom door before her heart stopped and time froze.
There, in the middle of the room atop her bed she saw her husband, a sheet covering him from the lower waist down as he thrust into a writhing woman. Maria heard a moan before the redhead looked up and spotted her gasping sharply and pushing at Robertâ??s shoulder. Immediately he moved from atop her, covering them both with a sheet.
â??Honey, itâ??s not what you think,â? he said hastily, holding up his hands imploringly as Maria stood frozen in the doorway, her eyes locked on the woman in her bed. She bore a striking resemblance to the small dark haired woman, and for good reason. The woman who, only a moment before, had been writhing in ecstasy beneath Mariaâ??s husband was her elder sister, Angela.
â??Oh god, Mary itâ??s really not what it looks like,â? Angela said hurriedly, sitting up and looking at her sister before Maria snapped out of her frozen state.
â??Not what it looks like?! Not what it looks like?! Get out,â? Maria hissed, eyes locking on Robert as her sister struggled into her clothing and left. â??Both of you, out,â? she screamed. From there everything went downhill with tears, screaming, yelling, and more tears.

One month later Maria had just finished unpacking the last of her boxes, pausing to look around her new apartment. Smiling slightly and letting out a sigh Maria sank into her couch and ruffled the ears of the large Great Dane who took up most of the space. â??So, what do you think of the place,â? she asked, smiling as the dogâ??s tail began to thump against the cushions and he lifted his head just enough to lick her hand before going back to sleep. â??Yeah, I like it too.â?
Since the divorce sheâ??d done her best to put the entire thing behind her, though that was easier said than done. A few friends had done their best to help her, but since sheâ??d only known them while she was married to Robert she didnâ??t feel she could actually confide in them. The only friend sheâ??d had left had been one of the guys sheâ??d gone to school with most of her life, though theyâ??d had a bit of a falling out when sheâ??d gotten married. Maria had managed to track him down and discovered that he still lived in town. After giving him a quick call sheâ??d invited him over so they could catch up.
â??He should be here any minute,â? she smiled, scratching her dog behind one ear as the sleeping beast let out a low growl. Chuckling and standing Maria padded back to her room, changing out of the old sweat pants sheâ??d pulled on that morning and replacing them with her favorite pair of comfortable jeans, changing out her t-shirt for a soft tanktop sheâ??d found at a small store only a few blocks down the way.
