The whole idea that Wendy had somehow been ignored for a good part of the last few days wasn't so much she wanted the attention, but that her opinions and output mattered. It had started shortly after the school year had. Through the summer, it seemed like her opinion mattered to some people. The leader of the group of "friends" she had been in almost immediately upon arrival to the Seattle area had seemingly approved of her.
Miranda Wright who was now in Kansas, working on a farm outside of Topeka, a farm she had inherited, had warned her.... Repeatedly... Not to fall in love with the leader... But Wendy had. And now, on a Sunday evening after the first week of school, she was in her room crying as she packed her bags and looked forward to late Wednesday evening, when she left on the red-eye flight for Boston, and then after a layover, across the pond to London and Mum.
Alexander appeared in the door and set a hot cup of tea down. "I really wish you would change your mind."
"Why? So they can ignore me more? I have maybe a handful of friends in that group, Pop! Those you may hear are subtly outed... Although the new picked leader... I'm just done. I'd stayed in that London school I wanted to be treated like shite!" She shook her head. "You called it manure, Pop. Absolutely correct. Guess who was shoveling the most of it, eh what?!"
"What about seeing Easter?"
"Pop... I said I would. Just... Not tonight. Mayhap tomorrow sometime. I'm not going to be in school these two days. Please don't ask nor order."
Alexander shrugged. "Drink that before it gets cold. Earl Grey is absolutely nasty when it's cold."
Wendy stopped what she was doing and went to the still steaming porcelain cup filled with a brownish liquid. She nodded as she took a sip. "Ta, Pop."
"So... You and the bouncer?" Alexander asked. "What does he think of all this?"
"Yes. We... Were going to be an item. But..." She set the cup and saucer down. "I'd like very much he come with me, and Mum wants to talk to him. Find out how serious and all, as it's a one way trip. Well, the part she's willing to pay."
Alexander nodded with a sigh, and went back downstairs. "If he can make it tonight, I'll just send him right up to you." He said as he descended.
