Question Multiple Accounts?

Just wondering, what's the site's policy on multiple accounts? I'm probably going to make another, if I can.

As stated in Site Rule #9, users can have up to five accounts.

A quick follow up question on this. Are these five accounts linked together in some way? Or are they five totally separete accounts?
Just curious how you track this.

Yeah I thought that through after I posted and it wouldn't be wise to publicly say.
I used to help run a site where the accounts were linked to one 'master' account.

Stupid question, but is entering a different email address the only way for a user to open a second account ? Meaning 'Up to 5 accounts,' would require five separate email addresses?

So, to have 5 accounts I need to create 4 more separate email addresses and perform the usual registration process?
Seems a bit 'clunky' but I do want to create accounts for a couple specific characters so I guess I'll get started.
