Random compliments on your writing - Odd, or good?

Been going around browsing and dropping lines, so now I'm curious.

For any of you who have gotten random compliments on your writing, how does that make you feel? Is it weird, or good? I've messaged people just to compliment their writing, even if I have zero interest in what their RT says. Example; having mild interest based on the title, finding out I'm not interested, but still loving their writing. I'm curious because a couple of the people that I messaged have been very surprised, although most have just said thank you. Is this uncommon to receive compliments?

Hit me with your feels!

I take it as praise, myself. If someone is reading my thread and tells e they think my writing is nice, I mean... Well, that's awesome. I admit I don't compliment others as much as I should since I have seen a few stories with amazeballs writing, but i'm a shy person and feel awkward for telling someone else 'Hey your writing is really good dawg hope you're having a good day' or some such. But anyway I don't find it odd at all.

I have never received such acclaim from a third party reader. I honestly don’t think anyone besides the players would be reading an RP thread. It’d surely be nice to hear something like that though =) I have praised a few people for their writing through PMs before, but only for self-written stories.

Years ago I was involved in a RP via thread and my partner and I were getting fan mail as well as subscribers.

It was a mother daughter incest plot and quite sensual which is why I think it appealed as it wasn't pornogaphic coarseness.

I have had the odd compliment here and there for other rp's as well as my stories too.

It's a good feeling knowing it's not just your partner who is enjoying it.

I think many around here, especially regular writers, would be pleasantly surprised to learn how many fans they actually have. It's very nice to get that sort of praise and you should never be shy in sharing it.

This is how you met me on E, Degu! 😄

I received a few messages like this over the years, as well as sent some. 9/10 times it has ended up in some kind of longer interaction, whether that be roleplay threads or just a fun back and forth. Works a lot better than the random hey wanna rp? kind of messages. Guess it feeds into a writer's need of appreciation. As Dirty Fingers said, it feels good knowing that someone other than you and your partner is enjoying your work.

I've gotten a few compliments throughout the years, and they always put me in the best of moods. My public threads threads are just that -public- and I love that others are reading them.

Doesn't happen much, enjoy it more than I should given my pretty low regard for my own writing. I call it a win that someone got something from my dribble.

I don't mind them to a degree, as long as it's not patronizing.
Sometimes if I'm doing a RP I've not done before it's a nice way to know I'm doing it well/right.

Cool!

A compliment is a compliment. I can always reject if it gets creepy from there.

Hey there!

Compliments are always nice in my opinion. If the person behind them gets creepy, you can always discard that portion. But even then, there's something about your writing that good. Creepiness is the fault of the creep, not your writing.

Just my three gold pieces.

Honestly I love random comments. I like feeling that rush of dopamine from some nice word . . . unless they're not nice comments then just bugger off. But a random comment even a simple "I liked this thanks" or "thanks for writing this story" are always nice.

Personally, I'd feel very good because English is not my native language, so it's something like a small victory for me. When I first started roleplaying in English, I was very anxious, because I'm good at telling stories in my language, my partners were very happy, but at the start it was very hard to find the right words to express something in English. That was sad, because I really love writing. I'm slowly getting better in English though. One of my favorite partners is an English native speaker and incredible writer(that's their profession) and we have a blast! I learn a lot from them and we're both having fun. So, even a small compliment about my writing makes me really happy :)))

It surprises me to be honest. Mostly because I don't really think my writing is that good. There are others out there who can twist words and themes better than my simplistic style. Yet people seem to like my characters and writing for some reason. ^^;

I mean, i have a tendency to really doubt my writing so I would be rather flattered by a random complement. Normally, in the quite moments my brain is like, wow, you suck at this writing, so random complements are nice. I can't say I've ever gotten any but maybe once. I guess I just assume most people aren't reading other people's thread.

Personally, I love when someone compliments my writing, whether we're RPing together or it's just a passing 'hey I saw this and loved it' situation. Cmmunication is key for me so giving feedback openly, and by extension praise, really helps assure me that I'm putting out something my partner enjoys. :)

I like compliments, and I like to give them. I particularly enjoy when they say something along the lines of, reading that was like watching a scene in a movie. That to me is super kind and encouraging.

Its both odd and good. I see random compliments as kinda weird but well complimentary. Just sort of a weird "well that was out of nowhere" to me. I'll thank them and see if they're just trying to break the ice then move on.
Haven't had it happen on BM yet mostly cause I've been in pms for the most part. But have had it happen elsewhere.

I like it when people compliment my writing. : 3
It makes me feel like I made some improvement then.
But I'm uncomfortable when people compliment about the smut parts. I'd rather receive compliments about the rest of my writing. : 3

I think it is brilliant that you do that, and I’m sure it brightens people’s days. I find it hard to take compliments sometimes but it would still make me happy to see - even if I disagreed with the assessment.

I have received a few positive comments on my writing, and have given some myself. Positive reinforcement is always great - a little gift to the other person. If we role played and you'd compliment my writing, I would be dee-lighted.
