So with new members joining us every day, we figured it might be handy to add a list of frequently used terms around the Blue Moon forums. If you come across any terms you don't know the meaning of, please feel free to PM them to staff and we will do our best to answer your questions.

A
AFK — Away from keyboard.
AU — Alternate Universe. Usually used to refer to fandom-based plots that do not follow canon events.

B
BDSM — Bondage, discipline, sadism, and masochism.
BMR — Blue Moon Roleplaying.
Bump — Bumps are used to ‘bump’ a thread up to the top of the list, therefore making the thread more visible to users browsing the forums. Bumps are any post made in a thread that brings the thread up to the top of the forum.

C
Canon — In regards to fandom, canon characters are characters that already exist in that setting, i.e. Frodo in Lord of the Rings or Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. Canon can also be used to describe events that happened or things that have been proven to be true in a given fandom. For instance, it is canon that Harry Potter’s parents died when he was very young.
CYOA — Choose Your Own Adventure. Usually used to refer to roleplays where one player takes the role of a character and the other player acts as the Game Master, controlling the world around them.

D
D/s, Dom/sub — Dominant and submissive. A Domme is a female Dominant.
DD/lg—Daddy Dom and little girl. A type of D/s play where the Dominant acts as a caregiver or parental role and the submissive takes on a childlike persona.
DM — Dungeon Master. Usually used to refer to the GM (Game Master) of a Dungeons & Dragons system-based game.
DnD — Dungeons & Dragons. A popular systems-based tabletop RPG.
Doubling — Usually used to refer to the practice of each player playing a character of their choice and a character of their partner’s choice, so each player gets one of their preferred pairings.
Dub-Con — Dubious consent. Used to refer to sexual encounters where one or both characters do not initially want to consent or are coerced to consent, but eventually do consent.

F
Face Claim/FC — A visual representation for a character. Some people like to use real-life/photographs/celebrities, and some people like to use anime/art/drawn references. It's all up to you and your partners!
Fandoms — Established universes, i.e. Harry Potter or Star Wars.
Futa — Short for Futanari. While all players have different definitions/ways to play futanari characters, it is most popularly used to refer to female-presenting non-binary characters that have breasts and a penis.

G
GM — Game Master. Usually used to refer to the person who is the head of a systems-based game, thus controlling the world and characters around the player characters.
God-modding — Taking control of another player's character during a roleplay. This is usually frowned upon by most users.

I
IC — In Character.

K
Kemonomimi — Humanoid characters that possess animal-like features.

L
LF — Looking For.
Limits — Things a player will not write. If you see things listed after the word ‘limits’, this means you should not ask that player about those things.
Loli/Lolicon — Sexual or erotic material involving prepubescent females. Loli is not permitted on Blue Moon.

M
MC — My Character.
Meat market — A meeting place for people seeking real-life sexual encounters. Blue Moon is not one, and should not be used for anything other than seeking online roleplaying partners.

N
Necro — To ‘necro’ a thread is to post on it when it has been ‘dead’ – without new posts – for a certain amount of time. Necro-ing is against Site Rule #11, where more detail can be found on appropriate lengths of time.
Neko — Usually used to refer to humans with cat-like characteristics, like cat ears, whiskers, and/or a tail.
Non-Con — Short for Non-consensual. Used to refer to sexual encounters where one or both characters did not/cannot consent.
NPC — Non-Player Character. Used to refer to a character that will not be central to the main characters, and is usually a side character that can be controlled by either player, though this is not always the case.
NSFW — Not Safe for Work.

O
O/O — Ons/Offs. Usually used to refer to a user’s turn-ons and turn-offs.
OC — Original Character. Used as a term for a character the player has created rather than a character already established in the setting.
One-Shot — Roleplays or stories that are only meant to last for one scene.
OOC — Out of Character.
OTP/OT3— One True Pair. Usually used to refer to a favorite pairing/ship. OT3 is an OTP with three characters instead of two.
Over-Bumping — Bumping before 23 hours has elapsed between posts on a Request Thread. Over-bumping is a violation of Site Rule #10.

P
Percent ratios — Usually used to define how much story vs. how much smut a user would like to include in their roleplays.
