After thirty years of a deep recession, the government began looking for every way to cut down their spending. They had already cut down on government aid, squeezed out all the taxes they could get from the citizens, and had even stopped giving out food stamps. Now they were looking at the hospitals. Deciding that some of the younger patients didn't need much supervision, they made artificial islands for them and told their families they'd be taken care of. However, that was not their true intent.

Here Lucia was in a small hut that was labeled 72-A. There was a bed, a dresser, and a chair in one room, and a bathroom and shower in the other. She had been one of the first to be shipped to the island. She hadn't seen any nurses and no medicine had been distributed. She was confused. Her designated breakfast, lunch, and dinner times were all early, and she would never be hungry at the times she got her meals. She wondered if she was allowed to leave her room at this time.

Only the fear of being punished with a sedative kept her inside the hut. She was growing tired of sitting inside the stuffy hut. She wanted to see more of the island. She took a deep breath and exited her quarters, looking around with curiousity. A few people were out, but no one was talking to eachother. She walked around and saw a large building with a single window and a few were lined up to get food from it. However, they were scanned first to make sure it was their turn to eat.

She looked at her bulky bracelet, realizing that it not only doubled as a watch, but it could be scanned as well. She had missed breakfast, unfortanately. She sighed and went to walk on the beach, looking out to sea. Something didn't seem right. There were one hundred residents on the island, and the government couldn't possibly watch them all. No medicine had been given either. Maybe it was in the food. No. Something just didn't seem right about that. Shipping food and medicine wasn't cheap.

He forgot how he got there, but at the moment he was staring at the most serene and lovely beach. Blue ocean, warm sand, the soft crashing of waves upon the beach, the cry of gulls filling his air, the smell of the sea, it was like some kind of wonderful therapy. Of course it wasn’t at least to most, it was merely freedom, wonderful, glorious, unhindered, unrestricted freedom. From the age of twelve to eighteen he had spent his entire time in a mental institution, he was studied, medicated, restrained, and consoled, none of it helped, he had no memory of being other people.

Having escaped at the age of eighteen he was able to elude capture and travel out of state, traveling from New York to Maryland. Living there for a good five years almost six he had been recently caught and locked in jail after he had went crazy and had attacked several crew members at a local McDonalds after “one of them looked at him funny”, which was probably because he was half dressed and carrying our a cane.

He was sent back to his old mental institution and locked back up, however it wasn’t even a good two months before he was moved out to the island. He however hadn’t realized it. Having trouble knowing what he did he had little to know memory when the personalities in his head took over, one moment he was staring at his ceiling, the next moment he was staring at this same, serene beach. He didn’t hear the young woman near the beach, or anyone else for that matter, all he heard was the crashing of the waves hitting the beach.

It would have helped if she had someone to talk to, but she was afraid. Without medication she was a ticking time bomb, like everyone else on the island, assuming they, too did not get any. She looked to her left, and she saw a man that looked around her age. She had to ask someone if they had recieved meds. She began to move towards him, and when she was close enough she took a deep breath. "Excuse me, did you..um..get medication today?" She asked, looking down at her bare feet.

He turned to the sight of a lovely and beautiful woman, it was like air around her, and the woman who stood before him was created exactly for him and his imagination. He took a moment to blink a few times and realize he was actually awake. "Oh, heh sorry for the delay in speaking though I was dreaming." He said and looked over at the ocean again and at her. "Um....do you know where we are?" He asked curiously not having a blasted clue where he was. It wasn't his fault, it was his personality disorder, when the other personalities took over he didn't have much of a choice and on top of that he lost all recolition of what happened and had no control when he was in one of his other personalities.

"I could have sworn I was in a hospital a moment ago...maybe I escaped, fuck yes!" He exclaimed and did a little jib getting quite happy! He put a toothpick in his mouth from a case of toothpicks, which had been in his front pocket. "So where is here Miss local girl?" He asked completely forgetting she asked her question, but would answer it gladly if she wanted to ask it again and remind him that she did indeed ask one. His mind still working around the last solid memory he had, trying to remember anything at all from that time till now.

She was glad she wasn't standing right next to him while he did that dance thing. It appeared he was already losing it. "We're on government assigned island. If my gut is right, like it usually is, in a few days it will be every man for themselves and the government will do nothing to stop it." She sighed and then shook her head. "You never answered my question. Did you get any medicine today?" She didn't think he could give her a straight answer. But he was right there, so she might as well try.

"I don’t really know what you’re talking about..." He said and felt like he was starting to get weighed down. He decided to sit down on the beach and cross his legs. "You seem stressed out, it’s best to just sit back, relax, and not strain yourself." He said and felt the mellowness of his mood wash over and relax him. “As for government island I don’t really think that such a thing would happen, its not like they have a huge reason right?” He said and felt incredibly lazy just then so he leaned back and his entire body collapsed on the sand, his body sprawled out like some kind of crash test dummy.

He then realized the girl had asked him a question and that answering it would probably be best. He put his legs high up into the air, kicking them out he shifted his body and did a springing jump to get to his feet. Then he got up completely, straightened himself out and then he patted himself off to get the dust and other crap on him off. “I have no recollection of however long I’ve been out miss.” He said being truthful but also completely useless. “I don’t have much memories before this island-beach paradise thing but maybe I did?” He asked not sure if he did have such meds. He looked through his knapsack and shuffled around till he found a bottle of pills. “Oh, yeah I got some, full bottle to, must have not taken any during the time I was completely zoned out.” He said and read the label, the prescription, and then put it back into his knap sack and closed it.

“In any case I am getting a bit hungry, I don’t know about you but I’m gonna get something to eat, I’m starved and I can’t really stand being hungry, lost, and out of it.” He said with a sigh. “Are you sure were not just on some sponsored corporate “Health Weekend” or some bull shit?” He said and laughed. “I bet those guys will tranq us if we try and cause to much trouble or get away from the beach.” He said. “Anyways I’m gonna go find some grub, your more than welcome to join missy.” He said and started to walk towards a random part of the island, having no idea where he was he had no bearing on where to go, so a random direction he went, unsure if the path would lead him to get some grub.

She had zoned out halfway through his rambling until he pulled out his meds. Perhaps she was suppose to bring hers and she forgot. When he said something about food she shook her head. "Its not my time to eat, so I'll just stay here." She wondered if it was his time. If not, he'd probably be angry. She took off her T shirt and pants, now in just her bikini. She might as well enjoy herself before the chaos erupted. It was possible she was the only one who knew what was really happening.

His attention was drawn immediately. Like a moth to the flames his eyes were to her body, attracted and was preparing to follow even if it meant him getting a little burned. He coughed harshly and shook his head a little bit, probably not helping his case for only being “mildly” crazy. “You know I don’t really know how this place works, and you seem to be informed more than me, not blanking out and what not, so how about we team up for a little bit till I get my bearings and what not?” He asked politely wanting to actually know how this place worked instead of going off and wandering without food or water, and end up getting lost trying to find it. “Could you show me where this “chow” is?” He asked. Though a question was starting to bother him. “Oh, and what do you mean its not your time to eat, you should be able to eat when you hungry…” He said not really familiar with the rules on time and eating.

She looked up at him, thinking he was already gone. "Well, my time to eat was thirty minutes ago. My bracelet started to notify me, but I didn't pay attention to it. And now I'll be hungry till dinner time, which for me it will be 5:30." She folded her clothes and used them as a pillow so she could lay back on the sand. "Sure, you can stick with me. Maybe you can be my body guard." She smirked up at him. "After all, I don't think I can protect myself..when I'm like so calm and collected like this.."

He looked at his wrist and noticed an absence of any band or watch on it. “Hmmmm, odd I hope I got one, if its important, but I am defiantly not liking these rules.” He said starting to sober up from getting back in control of his own body, and of course not being in a lab. Hunger wasn’t usually an issue with him, but when he became overly hungry that would be a sign for his other sides to take over, he needed to take care of the food issue.

“Ok, so let me get this straight, were on an island, and were supposed to be watched, but were not closely watched even though we should be.” He said making sure he had it all right, at least in what he was saying. “They are going to give us food, but for all you know they may, or may not give us meds.” He said thinking more clearly than he had in awhile. Fear was sobering him up, of course it was also a fuse for him to go away, he knew that he would have to tell her some time so he would just tell her now.

“Listen…I’m fine right now, and should be for awhile, but I have a problem, I mean, everyone does neh?” He asked her knowing that they wouldn’t be here if they all weren’t fucked up. “I have multiple personalities…and well usually they behave themselves, and I don’t even hear them, but its directly linked to my well being and my mood, the more control I have the less control they do.” He said to her. “The more hungry I get, the more angry, the more well the more whatever I get usually results in them poking their voices in.” He said. “At times I can communicate with them in my head…..my personality defect.” He said. “But whenever they take over they really take over, I don’t get much choice in the matter, I blank out and they have complete control.” He said.

He felt like he was telling his life story or something, and while it wasn’t it was a huge part of him. “Now right now I’m not ridiculously hungry, or panicked, or fearful, or worried, or stressed, but the moment my condition changes for the worse well…who knows.” He said. “But I do have pills and they help, but not as much as staying calm and collected.” He said. “Oh…and if I ever say my name is Ren, then run…run far away and don’t come back to me if you can help it.” He said giving her forewarning. “Not that you should run away, but I would understand if you did…” He said and sighed.

The moment he had said multiple personalities she understood. After listening to his story she nodded. "I am also diagnosed with multiple personalities, although its a less complex case. I can snap and get really sadistic. The was also a case of me trying to rape a doctor during one of my mood swings. He called it my nympho side." She smirked, although she really didn't think it was funny. "I can't really judge you, because I know how it is, but I never black out because I'm doing it.."
