It was a clear, cold morning in Equestria, a few weeks yet to go before Hearth's Warming, and the small riverside village of Ponyville was bustling with activity. Boats came and went up the river, delivering and picking up goods, as the train, locally nicknamed the "Friendship Express", was slowing to a halt at the station, off loading travelers from Canterlot who had come to town to visit friends and relatives, and picking up others who were leaving to do the same further south, in Appleoosa.
Such was the bustle that many a small oddity went unnoticed, like the argument in the market district between two mares about who was a better musician, Mocart or Deadmaer, or the small, toothless alligator that floated past the town hall on the end of a balloon string. This was Ponyville, and small oddities were an accepted part of living there. One thing that was not so common, however, and was noted by the passersby on the ground, was the large, lavish looking airship that came down from the North, pretty much following the railroad tracks.
It came to a slow stop above the town square, and a small group of pegasi wearing armour that was almost reflective, it was polished so bright, leaped out and, while some tied the ship off to the docking ring atop the tower of Town Hall, others lit upon the ground, fanning out to form a small perimeter, from which they looked out on the townsponies with little expression showing from behind the decorated faces of their Colterinthian style helms, similar to those worn by Celestia's Solar Guard, but in bright steel, almost chrome, as opposed to her guards warmer golden hues.
With little more in the way of fanfare, a figure appeared on deck of the airship and, massive wings spread, descended. Were you to ask the townsponies later what he looked like, you would get a slightly different story from each of them. Some would argue about his coat or mane colour, and still others would swear his eyes were blue, or green, or gold, or any other colour you might think. The only thing that they would all be able to agree upon was simply this: He was the most attractive stallion they had ever laid eyes upon.
He was also an Alicorn, a thing which sparked quite some clamor amongst the townsponies. Most of them had not heard of a male Alicorn, before, afterall.
He was dressed very finely, with a subtle navy coloured jacket made from silk and velour, it's velveteen buttons triple breasted up the front, backed by fine silver brocade. A slim fitting pair of linen trousers, tied off just above his hocks showed off a bit of a bulge and tight rear end, and there was simply no way that wasn't deliberately planned. In fact, everything about him smacked of being deliberate and intentional, with little attempt made to deny that fact. From the red velveteen neckerchief to the fine rapier that hung on his left hip, to the subtle silver coronet that sat upon his brow. It was all very deliberately meant to impress and awe.
As his hooves touched down upon the ground, he stood to his full, impressive height of nearly seven feet, his long horn seeming to add to it, and left his wings spread for a moment, the light of the morning sun shimmering around and through them, before he folded them tightly to his back, and glanced around for the welcoming committee that Princess Celestia had told him would be sure to meet him upon his arrival. . . .
