The lights in the lab were never truly off. Days and nights blended and morphed together at points with only the dimming and brightening of the overheads tas a way to tell whether it was night or day. Of course, the four being kept here did not grasp these concepts in their entirety anyway, never having been outside the confines of their respective enclosures. Each was distinct in their own ways, marked by what those in charge had decided to train them to be. Dog, Cat, Bird, and Bear could be approached and seen exactly as their tags and enclosure signs marked them to be, but anyone with eyes and a mind would have questioned the treatment if not for the singular similarity between the four. All four were Black Bloods.

What exactly did that mean? Well, it had not been too long since the human race had learned the term and suffered the knowledge of it. Only fifty years had passed since the last of the greater powers had been taken down. Black Bloods were a species of dragons to the minds of most- but to those in the religious depths of supernatural knowledge, they were also the children of one of the most feared and despised of the Fallen Ones- Sama'el Semjezzah. According to the church's lore and tales, Sama'el had once descended upon Earth and set up an empire of debauchery. His was a place of carnal sins and exploration of the sadistic nature of man. Sexual acts of every kind had taken place within his ruling lands, and only if one committed a crime against Sama'el himself was any sin ever punished.

He was written as the 'devourer of Dragons' as well, but it seemed some things in history had been left out, for his last queen, Paerosi, had given him an eternal lineage... of dragon blood creatures. These 'Black Bloods' appeared human for the most part. Unless they were taught how to transform the only true indicator that could be found was the jade that resided in their eyes. The strongest of them had pure jade eyes and blindingly white hair, a thing which made them as alluring and beautiful as they were powerful and dangerous. Their being found still living among humans had been a thing neither the governments nor the churches of the world could abide by. The war had lasted nearly a century, and during that time men had relearned the art of magic and alchemy and blended it with their technology and science to create the tools they needed to defeat and contain these often violent beings.

This lab contained four of the very few born into captivity and kept. Each lab performed specific experiments on the Black Bloods, and this one was dedicated to seeing if they could be trained to be animals, pets of varying kinds.

Dog was the more friendly and playful of the four. No matter how roughly treated he was, he continued to test and try to see if he could become friends with every handler who entered his enclosure. He obeyed simple commands and preferred to be loved and play games. He had about four different handlers currently who rotated on schedules so that he was only alone for maybe an hour or two to prevent him from barking and howling.

Cat was slightly less sociable, but not outright mean. Instead, he preferred to lay about and play on his own for the most part. He was more easily provoked into sexual play than the rest... and he enjoyed bondage, often tangling himself up in yarn or ropes left in his enclosure. He did enjoy being practically worshipped with attention if left alone too long, and this meant he did have less handlers than Dog did, but was not entirely left without one for more than a day or so.

Bear preferred not to be handled much if at all, and only required those who fed him or had to do check-ups. His enclosure was next to Birds and he was often watching the other from their shared thick glass wall. He was bigger than the others and more prone to getting angry with those who came in and bothered him too much. None of the technicians could figure out why Bear seemed so intrigued by Bird- nor why he was seemingly so protective. If he could see them entering Bird's enclosure and bothering him, Bear became highly aggressive and would even throw himself against the glass and roar, baring his fags at those on the other side. The flash of draconic slits in his jade irises had been enough to install a shade that could be slid down when Bird had someone entering... as well as to set up distractions to keep him calmer....

Bird was skittish of all of the workers, but then he had a right to be... his wings were not supposed to be present, they were his soul-wings... these only emerged when a Black Blood found their liife mate and bonded with them. All Black Bloods had these wings, but Bird had his forced out through the use of magic and science.... these wings felt even the slightest changes in the air current as if it were fingers pressing against bare skin... so anything else was that much worse- and they plucked feathers from him for part of their experiments... injecting him with things to see if they could get his wings to heal on their own without having to reattach what had been removed... so far each attempt had failed and had left bird screaming in agony till they returned what was taken.

Right now all but Bear was asleep in their enclosure... he was waiting for the lights to brighten. Bird had been hiding in his tree and he couldn't quite see him in the dim lighting of 'night'.
