However, how can I remove the General Chat from the home page? It is extremely annoying to have it front and centre, hitting me in the face so to speak every time I go back to the main page.
If I can't hide it... then that's a huge disappointment.

Display mode. Click the gears, go to the bottom under set color, there is a drop down for display mode. Select from there where you would like to position it on the forum.

You're welcome. You can also disable the chat on one of the check boxes under the same gears listing. Not sure if you already knew that but thought I'd offer that as well.
