Mars was the first planet to be fully colonized and terraformed by humans. It was even made bigger by slamming asteroids into it, and generating an atmosphere and magnetosphere. It's still red and quite dry, and is like an imperfect backwater little brother to the magnificent Earth. Currently about 504 000 000 humans live on Mars, and most of them live in Elon, the capital. This makes Elon actually the biggest natural city in the entire Republic. Geographically speaking. Technically the entire Earth is a city state, but because of it's oceans it's not really. Mars has much more dry land. Elon is bigger than North America and covers almost half of Mars when viewed from Space. It's far from a perfect city though. There's a wretched criminal underbelly, a lot of mass shootings, cyber crime, vigilantism, and depression is widespread along with Nihilism and glum. There's nothing about Mars that makes it stand out. It's simply not that special anymore. Humans are so powerful that no one could touch Mars, or really any world in the home Solar system. But Earth is just better, and even Venus is developing much faster now. One thing Mars does have going for it is that most of it's population are adults and it has a very R-rated culture and an excellent night life. Children are just better served on Earth and Venus so people move away when they start families and young people move in because of the lower rent costs and the fun college and night club atmosphere.
