Some people might consider it a little sad that the highlight of Shara Taylor's social life was serving beer and pretzels for her father's monthly poker game.
Granted, Shara hadn't had a social life in high school. She had been all skin, bones and braces throughout school, and hadn't blossomed until the summer between graduating high school and starting her freshman year at the local college . There were even a few people at the community college who didn't believe the Shara Taylor in their classes was the same Shara Taylor they knew in high school. And some of those people wanted to get to know the new Shara Taylor a lot, lot better.
But that boat had sailed, as the saying went. Shara was perfectly fine not making friends with the people who had snubbed her in high school, She kept up with her few friends from high school on social media, concentrated on her classes, and took care of her father.
Shara's mother had left her and her father when Shara was only two, so Shara had no memories of her mother, and didn't want to have any memories. She was perfectly happy with having just the one parent.
Not that Shara had an untoward relationship with her father. Quite the contrary. It was almost a TV-perfect father/daughter relationship, straight from the black and white family sitcoms from the middle of the ;previous century.
So Shara was very happy to serve as hostess for her father's monthly poker party. Or the Hootie and the Blowfish Night, she would teasingly call it, since all of the guys who came over were all white. They were still good guys. Shara didn't have a crush or anything on any of them, But they were nice to her, good friends with her dad, and that was all she needed,
So this Friday night, Shara was perfectly happy to stay at home and bring beers and chips to her father's friends. She wore what she usually wore around the house.: ared sweater, baggy blue jeans, sneakers and white socks. Nothing fancy or sexy or anything like that. Just normal walking around the house clothes.
As she heard her father answer the door and invite the guys in, Shara filled up bowls with snacks and put them on the dining room table, in preparation for that night's game.
