MC is a cardshark/gambler/hustler whose being held hostage by a local gang of outlaws for 10% of what he rakes in a day. YC is the top call girl in the Rose of Sharon saloon, unfortunately, which happens to be this gang's unofficial watering hole.
Both characters want out of this scenario, but unfortunately, it's not as cut-and-dried as a simple "run off into the night" escape might be: MC's life is on the line, and if he so much as thinks about skipping town, they'll kill him, and YC's father, the proprietor of the Rose of Sharon, owes the gang leader a large sum of cash, which he's been paying slowly with the money he makes with the saloon -- all of which will dry up if YC leaves. Not to mention this gang's influence stretches from El Paso to Tucson -- and the only way to start anew is head further west, to Sacramento.
After an accidental night spent together, the two become friends, and they begin scheming ways to escape from their captors, using their skills against them to make an escape.
However, after making the escape in the dead of night, the pair still have other problems that lie ahead. Hostile Native American tribes, harsh terrain, other outlaws, and the constant threat of the gang they're running from are just some of the issues they'll face on the long road to a new lease on life.
