Chris sat at the back of the library, eagerly pouring over the assignment questions and making the necessary notes for it before standing and walking across to one shelf. Taking down the book he returned to his table, an hour later he felt his stomach grumble a little but he did not care. He was a joke at this college, pretty much all students avoided him and even the professors did not like him much. Dressed in his usual black attire he should have got looks of appeal from others but all he got was abuse daily.

[ish fine fine! ]

Hayden Dubois[pronounced Dubwaw] was the total opposite from him. She was what they'd call popular in college. A 'hot' girl and definitely someone everyone knew. She maintained superb grades, teachers loved her and overall she was an excellent student. Only a freshman in college, she was like a senior who was so well known that whatever happened in her life, it would take less than a minute before more than half of the campus would know. Sometimes it was a bummer but she tended not to pay attention to it since she was usually in her own world.

While many would think that she is shallow and a cold heartless bitch, like we expect all popular girls to be, she is the sweetest and nicest person possible. She gives straight from her heart, cares more for others than her own self and is the full happiest when her close and loved ones are happy. Though because of her social status and standing in the school, people overlook that and just assume she is a heartless bitch. With her it wasn't that looks were deceiving. She didn't give off any vibe that she was a heartless bitch or look that way. She was sweet! But it was just how people's minds work apparently.

Given that the year was almost over, her friends figured some fun before finals ought to be the most fun! What they had in mind though, she was so not aware of but soon, the black haired beauty found herself walking towards the geekiest and most avoided kid in school and now standing in front of him. Compared to him, she was like the shining light in his dark tunnel. She had fair and flawless creamy white smooth skin, big hazel eyes and the perfect set of lush pink lips. She had wavy black hair that was right now tied up in a low to the side ponytail and wore a white mod sleeveless dress with sequin design at the bottom with black leggings and white flat boots. She was sporting a white and black look that day, though totally unintentional. it just happened that that was what she decided to wear. On her shoulder was a black Chloe hobo bag and her binder remained in her arms as she looked down at the geek--I mean guy. "Uh...hi."

But like many of the people on the campus, she tended to not speak to those who weren't in the social ring and Chris screamed outcast. It wasn't that she was programmed to only talk to people who 'mattered' or people who were more well known. It kind of just happened. She was the most innocent and sweet girl in middle school and high school and then she entered college and became the person she used to always hate. But she didn't realize it...yet.

Chris recalled yesterday's incident clearly as he had only barely glanced at someone and was attacked by a group of football players. His ribs and chest still felt the scars and wounds, they would for awhile and in a semi daze he partly heard what he though to be a voice. No one in this college even noticed him for the most part let alone speak to him. Eyes moved from the book he had been studying to across the table before slowly moving upwards. His blue eyes met hers before he looked towards the row of books.

"Yes , do you need help with something or here to dish out more abuse"

Hayden looked at him and she bit her lower lip. She did actually feel bad for the guy since he had been the target of a lot of a people's frustration and no one would do a thing about it. Sighing quietly, she shook her head. "No. I was just wondering if you wanted to get something to eat later?" She asked him, putting her hands into the pockets of her mod dress.

Chris's eyes never stayed looking in her direction for too long, knowing someone in the school it was probably a trap so they could beat him up again. Hearing her words but barely having them sink in he glanced at the book he was reading from for a few seconds before speaking.

"Why do you ask me. Is this some sort of joke or trick?"

"No..." She said narrowing her eyes. Of course her friends would make her deal with the most stubborn and avoided kid in the school. Wonderful. Sighing she put her hands on her hips. "Can't you just trust taht for once there isn't someone out to get to you and that someone just want to hang? It's possible right?" She asked, leaning on the table a bit.

Chris listened to her words and felt the movement from across the other side of the table. His eyes never left the book for ages before glancing up. It could be true but why wait until now he mused to himself. Another eighteen months and he would be gone forever.

"Then sit down unless you really want to go eat now"

With taht said, she took a seat down and crossed a leg over the other, placing her Chloe bag on the table. Looking over to him, she extended her hand forward. "I'm Hayden. You're...Chris right?" She asked kindly, her hand idly waiting to be shook. Even w hen talking to someone she didn't really know, regardless of who they were or their status in life, she was always kind. She wasn't superficial as some would like to believe.

His eyes glanced across the table watching her sit down before extending her hand, reaching out he shook it firmly. The only thoughts he had were to get through the remaining months here and be gone from the place forever. Work was already there for him, he could have left now but figured education was best taken care of once and not returned too.

"Yes i am Chris, nice to meet you."

"Likewise." She smiled friendly and then sat back and bit her lower lip. After about thirty seconds of silence, she sat up and looked at him. "So tell me about yourself? I mean I hardly believe anything that people say about others. I'd rather talk to that persona nd learn the truth or factual facts. So yeah." She nodded, wanting to learn about him.

Chris enjoyed the silence until he heard her speak, each and every one of her words absorbed this time. No doubting she had guts to even in be the same room as him, but talking to him and wanting to get to know him. God may not even even be able to help her if caught.

"There is not much to say that you do not already know, i'm the college geek that is fun to pick on. If you need help with assignments just ask"

"Oh come on. There's more to you than that, I know for sure." She told him. "Hobbies, likes and dislikes and what not. I won't stop pestering unless you really give me some juicy details. I mean I can go on and on. My mom told me that I was a motor mouth just like her back in the day and if I tried I could really annoy until I get what I want. I'm proud of it and it's a favorited gift." She grinned. "So it's up to you. I could just sit here and talk all day unless you let up. Even if you try to run, I will stand up and follow you...." She trailed on, continuously talking until he'd let up.

Silence had fallen over that small section of the library for only a few seconds, her words were absorbed one by one. Having known of the tirade he received two days ago that lasted ages he shook his head and closed up his book. Putting it along with his notebook into his pack he shrugged his shoulders.

"Books, computers are my main ones. You are either really brave or on a quest from the gods to be taking this much time with me"

Hayden laughed a little bit. "Or I just go out of my way to annoy anyone I see. See I may be like 'popular' but I'm annoying as hell." She laughed as she looked at him. "Is it a crime though to want to talk to you and take so much time out of my day and be near you?"

Chris had endured far worse, even from his own mother. That could have been partly why he just shook his head and slowly stood up. His eyes met hers this time.

"No its not, now if you are ready to eat lets go"

Hearing her words as they walked from the library and out across the lawned area he sighed a little. Eyes glancing around waiting for the attacks to begin.

"Cafeteria is good enough for me"

"Alright." She walked right on into the cafeteria and dragged him along to the front of the line. She saw some of the usual jocks who tended to gang up on him coming towards him as if it was so easy that he decided to show his face. She stuck her head out from behind him and glared at them, pretty much saying with her death glare to fuck off. With that, they did and she smiled at Chris. "see...no harm will come to you."

Chris noticed the jocks heading his way no sooner he had entered, was it a bad move to even think about trusting her. Seconds later they were gone, her words hitting him slowly. Maybe some of the college would leave him alone if around her but it was still not right. Ordering his food he spoke as he glanced around for a table.

"Thanks, they will only return when you aren't around though and possibly make my life even worse than what it is now"

"Oh you think that but trust me, I know some stuff that will really kill a jock's self esteem and ego." She wasn't a slut but just had dates with most of them and they ended up having sex and well it wasn't really pleasurable if she can't feel them. She got herself a tray and started filling it up with a lot of food. She had a fast metabolism and a big appetite for such a small girl.

Hearing all of her words he sighed on the inside. She was popular , how could she know what they would do or already had done to him. The verbal abuse he was getting used to but explaining the bruises to his mother was unbearable. Taking his tray across to one table he sat down, eyes still cautiously looking around for any trouble that may come.

Hayden sat down with him and she sighed quietly. She put her hand on his and gripped his hand gently. "Hey. Don't worry okay? No one will hurt you. I will make sure of that." it kind of hit a ventricle to know that he was a target for amusing physical abuse. It saddened her and her real task at hand with him left her mind and she was focussed on making sure he didn't get hurt.

Chris felt her sit down near him, her hand touching his sent jolts through his body pulling it away slowly almost jumping from his chair as well. Eyes scanned the room before he shook his head again, sighing on the inside before picking at his food.

"So tell me how you really think you can protect me all day every day"

It almost insulted her at how he pulled back so quickly if she hadn't known where he was coming from. ANd because she knew that, she knew not to be offended but just bare with it. Picking up her sandwich pack, she opened it and took this huge bite. After eating, she looked at him and shrugged. "I don't know. I was just thinking maybe I would pretty much stay at your hip. We don't have any classes but I mean...I see you a lot and I will make the effort to see you a lot." She said softly. "but most of your bullies, are guys I've dealt with and they aren't good at all and I know things that some don't know and that can ruin their reputation. Just...trust me okay?"

Each and every time she spoke he felt something from the combination of her voice and words. Nodding his head he ate most of his food and drank some of his juice. Eyes were always looking around no matter what someone says to the contrary. Taking a few deep breaths he spoke softly.

"Thank you and i do hope you do not become a leper of this college because of me"
