It still took Zane another few seconds after Holly, the girl the pair had just broken, to go into Victoria's Secret, before he had registered Ava's panicked voice.
He shook his head, the lustful miasma clouding his brain, subsided enough to feel the soft, warm touch of his lover's skin on the back of his hand.
The words from the message bouncing around his head, until they fell into the proper places of understanding. In that moment, prior to her touch, to say he was lost and overwhelmed, awash with lust and apathy, was an understatement.
Ava once more pleaded the words to him, this time with such clarity, she may as well been using a knife to stab his eardrums. "What are we going to do?"
"We will see her." he stated matter-of-factly. "But we leave the book behind, and tell her, we exercised her husband's last wish." he paused, resting his other hand on hers. "We say we destroyed it."
By now the aura of lust had faded and the other patrons in the small food court, had once again gone back to ignoring the pair of twenty-somethings, in favor of more banal and idle conversation.
After a long pause, Zane leaned over and kissed his sister's forehead. "Thanks for that back there." he gestured towards the store they had made her purchase. "Now..." he said, as he stood up, holding her hand. "I did say you could go shopping, so where to?"
