They had been assigned to protect a certain wealthy merchant in a village a long ways from Konohagakure, who had been getting death threats from an unknown source and there was concern for his safety so Team Kakashi had been sent to take care of this problem. Most likely whoever wanted this merchant dead would try again and this time Kakashi, Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura would be there to stop them, it was a good exercise mission for his students to introduce them to the world of being a shinobi of Konoha.
It had been discovered that a rivaling village wanted to take out the merchant so they could add this place to their own expanding lands but Team Kakashi had managed to thwart that attempt and things worked out in the end. Konoha would end up getting paid and this village would once more flourish due to Konoha's aid which was what these missions were aimed at doing, keeping up good relations with neighboring villages so that if Konoha itself was ever in need those villages would do the same.
Hatake Kakashi was leading his team back to Konoha but decided to stop and stay at an inn for the night since it was getting a bit late and they needed a rest anyway. It would take a bit to get back to their village but he wasn't worried about the time it would take for it wasn't as though they had something pressing to report to the Hokage. He set them up with a room, one that had four beds in it since he didn't want to assume anything and called his team together.
"Listen up. We are going to go down and grab some dinner and then you can either head down to the bath house to soak a bit or come back up to sleep. No running about outside because we don't want to run into any problems on our way back. Our first duty is to report to the Hokage on how the mission we were on was a complete success. Understand?"
Kakashi asked as he looked at each one in turn, waiting for a response. This was how teams should be like, they should realize that the mission came first before anything else which was something he had known from an early age and although he now knew that friendship and loyalty were more important than the mission he would not say this. They would need to learn that on their own. They would also need to learn that if the ones they knew turned bad they would have to do whatever it took to keep them from harming others even if it was their closest friend or a family member, that was just simply how it was.
"Let's go."
He said and headed off down to the dining area where there would be a whole variety of food for this place had a nice buffet which he had remembered from previous missions and he knew his team would appreciate it. Kakashi took a bit of this and that and then headed to the table to sit down with his chosen food as he let his eyes linger on Sakura, Naruto and finally Sasuke. There was something about Sasuke that drew him in and he couldn't quite figure out what that was.
Perhaps it was the fact that he was the last Uchiha of the massacred clan. But for some reason he thought it was something more than that and he wasn't able to place his finger on it at the moment but he knew it would come to him eventually if he kept thinking about it. His team was comprised of very talented and skilled shinobi even if they themselves did not realize it. The trio were only fifteen years old but they showed promise and if trained right they could become great shinobi.
Kakashi's eyes flickered over to Sasuke again and found himself thinking about the young ninja...as he chewed on a piece of meat absent-mindedly.
