The Main Characters:
Daniel Fairchild (19 years old)
Lydia Fairchild (13 years old)
-----------------
Daniel watched the taxi drive off with a sigh. When he had been told he was going to be left home alone to watch the house, he immediately started planning the party in his head. When he was then told that he was also responsible for looking after Lydia, his little sister, his plans shattered.
To every silver lining, a cloud.
Babysitting Lydia was not the way he had planned to spend his summer. Even if it was only for a couple of weeks, as far as Daniel was concerned, it sucked. Having a thirteen year old around was a perfect way to ruin any fun Daniel hoped to have. It was his first time being left home alone, and there he was, left in charge of a little kid.
Daniel shut the door and headed to the kitchen. The fridge was sparsely stocked, as usual. Having two business executives as parents left little time for shopping. He had his debit card, and his folks had left far more than enough money in his account to cover the next two weeks, but Daniel didnât care much for cooking. He had some money in his wallet; it was a still early in the day to be ordering dinner, but if he called for a pizza now it would be around later when the kid got hungry.
Ah well, maybe I can rent a movie or something.
He grabbed the cordless phone and lied down on the couch as he dialled the local pizza place. He didnât really know what Lydia liked, but he figured pepperoni was a safe bet. Everyone likes that.
