"We should come here more often," Kirsten sighed happily, leaning lightly against the railing, beyond which was a big hole leading to the ground floor of the mall. The skunk's tail twitched lightly before she turned around to face her friend. "I didn't realize it was so close now." She was a normal teenage female: short hair, comfortable tee shirt, lightly faded jeans and sneakers. Nothing was particularly outstanding about her, though she didn't look unappealing. She was just ordinary.
Unknown to them or to anyone else in the mall, an airborne pathogen was slowly swept along by the prevailing winds. The air inside the mall hadn't been affected yet, but the two of them had just come from the outside. It was only a matter of time for them.
